Hmmm. We should've annexed Mexico back in 1848. Would've solved a lot of illegal immigration problems.
The best thing we can do now is make the immigration process easier while at the same time strengthening our borders. The only reason the immigrants are crossing illegally is because the legal process is so convoluted and screwy.

What about returning Texas, Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Utah to Mexico. That should diminish the amount of illegal immigrants.

Convoluted and screwy? I've got three friends who went through it with their families, two from Mexico and one from Cambodia. They had no problem with it, and no, they weren't wealthy (which is often a great way to lube the wheels).

Then those states would be no different from the rest of Mexico and we'd have illegals coming in from them. You think there's something magic about living north of the Rio Grande? You think those states would have the same standard of living now if they had stayed part of Mexico? It's the American culture of capitalism, democracy, and the protestent work ethic that made this country great.
