Is there a way to have no custom user title? I've tried entering blanks but that doesn't change the existing title.

I don't think it can be left totally blank..

You have to type in at least one letter, number or character..

What I have now, is as close to a blank user title as you're gonna get.

All I have right now, as a user title is a period...

Did you mean you wanted to get rid of the post count too?

You have to type in at least one letter, number, or character..

If you're hoping to get rid of the post count, that's not gonna happen..

Just type in a . or a - or a ~...That's as close to blank as you're gonna get.

The forums software strips blank characters and defaults a "null" to a * (asterisk)
You just can't have it blank. (It might well be down to how the software deals with titles, where it needs at least one character present)
