Anyone here heard of the Cult of Cthulhu? It is a religion headed by a man named Darrick Dishaw who admits he is evil. He believes that the deities depicted by H.P. Lovecraft (Azathoth, Yog-Sothoth, Cthulhu, etc.) are real. His un-sacred text (Cthulhu Cult) is available to purchase online and his website is

im assuming you worship "kutulu"?
or do you base the religion on fiction books written in the early 1900's?

Hey I love ...Lovecraft...but not that much.

Nietzsche thought big thoughts, I try to do the same....you and your cult do not.

Retarded.
It's hilarious how many people actually believe that the Necronomicon is an actual book rather than a fiction created for effect.

However, there is a story that Lovecraft co-authored with Harry Houdini (if I recall correctly) where the protagonist of the story is a magician who sold his soul to the devil for magical power but, as is usually the case when dealing with the devil, got the worse end of the deal. Thus, to insult the devil, he portrayed his power as stage illusion and made a point of demonstrating the 'trick' to each of his magical powers.

Although, for some reason, I'm now thinking this is also the plot to Lord of Illusions by Clive Barker... perhaps I'm mixing two similar stories... I do know that Lovecraft wrote a story along these lines because I definitely remember thinking at the time that it would be interesting if the Necronomicon was being belittled as fiction for similar reasons. (Of course, I don't believe that, only that I can see the irony of such a situation.)

There is a cult, but it is a cult of H.P. Lovecraft. Personally I can't understand why he is so popular. Not to insult those who find something in there, art is art. But I'll take Frodo, Spellsinger, or Harry Potter any day!

You are comparing apples to oranges imo.

He is a horror writer more than "fantasy".

And his style is everywhere in modern culture.

The best review I ever read of HP Lovecraft was that the "quality" of his writing was predicated purely on the fact that his readers had a better imagine than he did.
"Indescribable horrors!"

That my friend is the *best* kind of horror. The worst imaginations of the reader/viewer.

THink about it, that's why new horror movies just suck dogz ballz. They show everything in full cgi.

Yes, I can never understand why its cool to pretend to worship something that basically just wants you dead, in as painful a way as possible.

Ahhh, but at least with Catholicism your supposed to end up in heaven. With Cthulu you just end up mangled and dead.

Hello. Is this the real Darrick Dishaw?

Darrick Dishaw (http://www.cultofcthulhu.net/cthulhucult.htm)'s page reads more like a roleplaying game intro than any serious religious exposition.
