id say muralitharan from sri lanka is a way better bowler than warne...

and umm.. THE AUSSIES WONT WIN.. hehehe.. it would be real sad if they won... no fun...

SA were screwed by a calculator again. Least they didn't have to score 22 runs off 1 ball, though. Having said that NZ would probably have won.

Two people have scored 140 in an innings(Styris and Gibbs) and have still not won, how wacky is that?

aight.. im predictin that the final is gonna be india vs australia..
and that india will beat australia... revenge..ehehe... its gonna be a helluva semis and a final... after we dismiss the kiwis tomm, like we decimated sri lanka the other day... we're gonna go blast kenya and then have a war against the aussies and beat their asses... who's with me.. :D

Is this a trick question? :bugeye:

lets just talk about who will come second:p
Kenya have been really impressive, I know ... kenya?! but they've been playing really well, I like sri lanka too, I agree muralitharon(sp?) is the best spin bowler by far.
I'm glad england don't have a chance, I hate the english cricket team, I hate that bowler with the grey hair and massive ears, god he's annoying to look at!

I find it continually amazing that people jump onto the bandwagon of whoever is flavour of the month. Wisden names Muralitharan best bowler in the world, 2 months later you find every dog and his mother saying "Muralitharan is the best bowler in the world". Phht. Ask yourselves, when you look at his stats... what nations does Sri Lanka usually play in tournaments? Are they world class? How well does he bowl against Australia, or South Africa? Now he's good, I'll give you that much. But as far as the "best bowler in the world... by far" goes... you're fulla shite. Six months ago you were all calling him a chucker, no doubt. Load of PC crap.

As for Shane Warne being overrated... you freaking morons, he only changed the nature of spin bowling in Australia and reintroduced what had become a lost art into the game. His stats are up there with some of the best in the world, including his economy rate which as a spin bowler usually suffers. Talk about Tall Poppy Syndrome. Goons, the lot of you. I doubt you'd know which end of the bloody bat to hold if they sent you lot out into the middle. Probably duck the first fast ball that came your way too. Armchair cricketers, phht.

He's my favourite bowler and he has been since I first watched him bowl. I don't look at stats, I'm not that interested in it, I enjoy watching him bowl thats all. I tend to say somethings the best when its my favourite, he is my favourite bowler ... by far. I bowl alot like him and my lame assed critics call me a "chucker" as well but, like him, I'm clearly not chucking.
DAMN CRITICS!!!!!
Shane warne is a fag, australia rocks, bichel is our best player by far.....;)

ermmm... looks like someone has a lotta pent up frustration for not makin the national team eh... :D

if ur gonna say that muralitharan doesnt have a big impact with his bowling, then u are sadly mistaken... he's bowled superbly in the world cup... sure shane warne could arguably be one of the best leg spinners, but he was definitely overrated....

as far as the best bowler in the world goes, there isn't one single bowler that will take the cake... there are great bowlers in each team... i personally like how shane bond bowls... brett lee is gettin better every day... back in the day, walsh and ambrose were fantastic bowlers for west indies... wasim akram for pakistan.. the guy is brilliant...

as for armchair cricketers.. talk bout urself.... half the fun is playin da game...

First of all my team (pakistan) has been knocked out of the tournament so they would not be playing in the finals... thats 4 sure!

What i know is that the final match will be a tough game between India and Australia. It will all depend upon the performance of these teams on 23rd of March. So its premature to say anything about the finals.

Any how my all prays are for India.... i hope Sachin will be playing a great innings against Aussies knocking them out in the finals... Good luck India.....Good luck Sachin. Hope u will bring the worldcup back to the subcontinent.

sycoindian
03-14-03, 02:12 PM
hey.. i agree with ya... sachin needs a good knock...
wasn't the india vs pak match the best in the tournament? such a classic match up... it was great to see both teams put in their best...

ucitian
03-14-03, 02:50 PM
well ya .. it was a perfect game to watch. Full of thrill.... Absolutely fantastic!!! It was nice to see Pakistani bating back in form but you know it was to late... Anyhow full marks to Sachin who knocked the Pakistani pace bowlers with great a great deal of confidence.

Anyhow i feel that both the nations were glad to see their cricket teams in action. Such games can help these nations to diffuse the tensions that have grown dramatically over the past few years.

purple_hairstreak
03-15-03, 03:23 AM
are you kidding? i think the tension increases bcos of these matches. and people just dont look at it as a game between inida and pakistan, they look at it as WAR. and i, for one, know that the indian team has been let off income tax just because they won against pakistan...isnt that ridiculous?

sycoindian
03-15-03, 03:58 AM
yeahh... i dont think it diffuses tension, but sparks it... its just real sad that ppl turn a match into a political hoopla... riots broke out everywhere too and celebrations turned into violence extended towards muslims.... i can't believe they gave em income tax break just cuz of that win.. if the government is gonna feed this attitude to the players there is no hope... i wish it was just another match, but its never another match when both teams play... as you said, its pretty much warzone... good cricket tho'...

ucitian
03-15-03, 04:16 AM
Well ya! you are right. I guess this would have happen in Pakistan with Pakistani cricketers if they had won the game against india. You know, this does not depict the feelings of the nation as a whole. This is just an act of the the political governments in these countries. They want to make people realise as if they had done something great. Wining of loosing any cricket match does not mean any thing for nations. But these stupid governmens.... my gooddness... they exagerate this stuf for their own poitical benifits. Pity!

You know, in the editorial of my university magazine this month, i wrote that Mr. Wajpai must not take it as a victory of India against Pakistan. It is just a victory of Indian cricket team over Pakistan cricket team. If we look it in a bit more wider context then its a victory of cricket against Indian Governement lead by Mr. Wajpai.

Let me tell u something intresting. Lot of indians love to see Wasim Shoaib Akhter in action.... similarly lot of pakistanis including me .... they love to see Sachin, Ganguli and Dravid in action.

Believe me Pakistanis and Indians... they both want to see good relations among their countries. But the politics in the region, i guess, will never let their dreams come true.

well, all the super six regulation matches were done with today.. we have da semis comin up...

australia vs sri lanka
india vs kenya

We can go back to the times when cricket was the quintessential English game, played in the green, green fields of England amongst English gentlemen while English ladies watched and had tea and cucumber sandwiches. There was one little snag, though. Not all the English gentlemen out in the middle were Gentlemen. Some were merely Players, for that is the distinction that put down those who actually earned some money from the game. In fact, most British cricket grounds had two separate dressing rooms and even gates for Gentlemen and Players, so that when play began, each one came out on the ground through their separate little exits. Of what use are class distinctions unless they are visible?

When the British came into India, they used cricket as yet another tool of the empire. The most famous tournament of that time was The Pentangular, which, as the name implies, had five participating teams. It was no accident that the British formed these teams along community lines: the Europeans, the Hindus, the Muslims, the Parsis and the Christians. If you are going to divide and rule at work, why not also at play? Yes, what do they know of cricket who only cricket know? They wouldn't know of the bookies, the Top Ten of them, rounded up by the Mumbai police on the day of the India-Pakistan match and kept at police headquarters all day, so they couldn't run their gambling syndicates. They wouldn't know of match-fixing, of which the late, lamented (by South Africans) Hansie Cronje, corrupting his younger players into throwing their wickets. They wouldn't know of the One Day International played years ago at Srinagar. India played the West Indies, and the crowd cheered the West Indies! (And, by the way, booed and abused the Indians so badly that television coverage was switched off).

They wouldn't know of the South African Radio Breakfast show host who was incensed with his team's exit from the tournament at the hands of Sri Lanka that he spewed the worst kind of racist venom at the visitors. "Get off our shores," he began, "you people with stupid, long names and whose mothers are all men." The bad taste doesn't hide the important fact that cricket, the game, can generate a vicious jingoism everywhere.

Sycoindian :

First, you predicted that South Africa would win the cup, and New Zealand would put up a good fight. Next, you predicted a Sri Lanka/India grand final. Now you're predicting an Indian win in the final against Australia.

If your past record and obviously superior knowledge of cricket are anything to go by, I'm feeling a lot more relaxed about this final game. ;)

There's also www.baggygreen.com.au for an Australian cricket website Sarge.. very good.

Ok, here's my take on the final.
There's no doubt India is on a roll at the moment, Tendulkar is having a fine series as usual, and he's one of the best batsmen in the world. India's trio of pace bowlers are also doing very very well. Ganguly's just had an impressive innings, but the rest of India's batsmen seem to be a little out of form.

None of Australia's batsmen are having an outstanding series with the exception of Symonds. However, Australia has the sort of team where even out of form batsmen scores 30's and 40's, and there's nearly always someone putting their hand up when it counts. McGrath is one of our finest bowlers, and even if not a prolific wicket taker this series he's economical and reliable. There's Brett Lee.. speaks for himself. Bichel has proven to be a fine replacement for Gillespie, and he can bat too it seems. Can India's batsmen handle true pace? Not the last time we played them. Our spin department is competant, but by no means world class. With Warne out, we're missing a serious cog in the machine, and Hogg is going to be slaughtered by the likes of Tendulkar unless he gains some unprecedented form in the final.

All in all, I'd say there's little to choose in the bowling department when we look at series form. Both sides have a good attack, Australia perhaps a little lacking in the spin department. When it comes to batting, I think Australia definately has the edge. Tendulkar has carried the Indian side in too many games for them to be a good bet, and if he goes early... bad news for India. Australia bats all the way down to number 8 or even 9 on a good day. If Martin is still not fit to play it could mean that Australia's batting is weakened a little, but perhaps not too seriously.

On paper, it seems we've got it. However.. lots of things can happen. We're on a winning streak that has to end sometime, and India is the team that's going to do it if anyone can. We don't have Warne, and Martin might not play... a big minus. Gonna be an interesting game... I hope ;)

heyy.. at least i made some decent predictions.. it would be rather dumb for me to predict australia is gonna win cuz they were winning all their matches... and south africa just didnt pull it off even tho' they had a good team on paper... and the kiwis was cuz i liked how they defeated the south africans.. just takin a good gamble before the world cup started... and india of course i favoured cuz that's where i was born... i believe they can beat da aussies tomm... i dont really care if you think my predictions are useless or not, u didnt make any to start with in the beginnin...
its all good... im gonna enjoy tomm's game cuz its gonna be great cricket... and my vote is with the indians...

sycoindian
03-22-03, 05:31 AM
good breakdown of the final tho i have to say marquis... but if i was brett lee, id be worried about how the indian batsmen are gonna play.. they ripped apart the pakistani fast pace trio... tendulkar single handedly demolished em... so brett will have to bowl exceptionally well with the new ball to really make an impact... australia does seem to have more depth in batting but symonds is the only one who is batting consistently... if the indians can take a buncha wickets early on, it would really put the aussies in a fix... get gilchrist, hayden, ponting out early.. that wud be the key... if you get a big knock from tendulkar and ganguly, i think the aussies will be in trouble...

id like to see a total over 300 by the first team and then see someone chase it.. u knoww whoever wud bat second is gonna play exceptionally well too... its really gonna be a fantastic game.. and sweet revenge too if the indians won...

The Marquis
03-22-03, 06:57 AM
I sincerely hope it'll be a good game, as all finals should be. Of course India have what it takes to beat Australia... I said that, and I'm counting on them to put up a fight. All you had to do was look how the pitch was playing to see why they had troubles, Syco. If you'd actually watched those games, you'd have seen it. Of course there were nervous moments... but in the back of my mind was "Well, the pitch is playing oddly and the Australians aren't making a big score. That means other teams will have an even tougher time of it" and sure enough, they did.
