So I just got noise-canceling headphones, and for some reason, when I take them off after using them for long periods, my hearing seems heightened. Normal sounds seem overloud, and I hear in "high resolution" - little sounds seem really defined and "clean" to my sensory system. Why does this happen? Does this make your hearing actually more sensitive, or is it just an illusion?
Yes it does. It also uses a device which listens for the waveform reaching the ear then emits the inverse of that sound into your ear, so, cancelling it out. ?
What make/model did you get, I've been considering trying some for a while, but not picked any yet. No idea if it's an illusion, but if I buy some, I'll let you know if the same happens.
