Yes, that is what it is, that is why we chatter.
Sure it also serves as communicating orders and so forth and making threats and giving warnings and what have you, and grooming serves to remove parasites, but its mostly a social activity used to strengthen bonds. Well talking is our grooming, its what we adopted when we lost our fur. We've been vocalising to some extent for much longer, but we were forced to expand this into language when we lost our fur. We needed a way to continue making friends and establishing order, and to pass the time. Hence the birth of discussion.
