View Full Version : Congress Ratings Lower than Bush's

According to the May 10-13, 2007, Gallup Poll, 29% of Americans approve and 64% disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job. Congressional approval is down 4 percentage points since last month, and is 3 points lower than the 32% average measured during the first five months of the year. The high point for the congressional approval rating so far this year was the 37% approval measured in February.

Way to go Democrats. Your approval rating is 4 points lower than "the evil" George Bush.

They have the majority and said their ratings would skyrocket once they took over.

At a DC party when they knew they would regain control.

What's with that? Though, lets face it, congresspeople(?) have a long hostory of jetting overseas to "settle" things themselves. The one GOOD thing that came from it was the fact that we are now talking with Syria about Iraqi and Lebonese security. I've read, not a few commentaries, that hypothesize that Ms. Pelosi did what she did with tacit approval of the Bush adminiatration in the hopes that she would succeed and lay the foundations for his admin to complete the work and [surprise] take the credit... or if she failed, could lay the blame upon her and the Dems. Ahhhh... party politics.

The disapproval could be about the Republicans. They don't have the majority, but they block supermajority votes all the time, such as that needed to override Bush's veto.

Doubt it. Congress rarely gets high approval ratings no mater who's in power. People like soap operas on TV, not in their supreme legislative body-- and what we have in the Congress is nonstop catfighting. It makes it bad for BOTH Replicrats and Demublicans.

Doubt it. Congress rarely gets high approval ratings no mater who's in power. But very high re-election rates are standard.

The problem with the President getting low numbers is that he's the other guy and your guy both, so the buck doesn't pass - you can't disapprove of the Presidency and approve of your particular President at the same time.

I'd kind of worry about my country if people started to approve of the way Congress was doing things, in general. It isn't set up to look good even when it's functioning as designed, and it's been one screwup after another for years now.

Hmm, they had good ratings during the Reagen administration. I think they did pretty well under the Carter administration, too.

Dont believe polls.

One doesn't need polls to know whether a congress is doing well or not! Or is that how you determine everything, Nick?

Whats that got to do with it? , Read the OP, its a Gallup Poll! Its one thing to have an opinion, its another to have a pollster gather opinion. Unless you don't know the difference?

Congress hasn't done squat since the libs took over. They were bragging about how their first 100 days would be so awsome. Not. No awesomeness. Just a load of cr@p that fooled stupid Americans into voting for them.:(

They have been rankly ineffective, more interested in gestures expressed through non-binding resolutions rather than offering real and substantive policy. It took the Republicans to sell out their conservative principles and sign on to an amnesty bill for something of substance to be achieved...

superstring01

Again... the Congress has never had high approval ratings. The very nature of it (banter, debate & division) makes it annoying and repulsive to most people... no matter HOW effective its results may be in the end (and effectiveness is rarely something it can claim-- thus, even lower approval ratings).

I almost started a thread on this, but felt too lazy at the time. Sadly, Bush will soon drive his approval even lower than Congress with his support of this BS amnesty bill.

If you mean Pelosi put known criminals in charge of huge security issues then yes, they got 'er done. They also want raises for the illegal aliens. And Pelosi was already caught doing special/illegal(?) favors for her constituents.

Thanks for nothing democrat-controlled Congress.:(

I'm not going to waste my time proving known facts. I have followed politics for years and have heard most of the stories. (Many first hand.) You want proof? Google it. I'm getting ready for work and not spending my last 10 minutes here trying to prove something to you.

Some of Pelosi's mistakes:
Jefferson
the tuna/pineapple people
the headscarf
the entire Syria trip
Murtha/Hoyer debacle
demanding a bigger AirForce jet:rolleyes:
stuffing the "emergency" war legislation with $20 billion in pork-barrel spending
lied on earmark disclosures
skips briefings
her water project
her anti-America/pro terrorism stance
her anti-troops stance
her cut and run position....
There are SO many more. She's a joke. A bad joke.:(

String,
You aren't giving Congress credit for all of those productive investigations they've done since taking office. Which is a shame, since it's really all they've done.

So credit where credit is due. This congress will not hesistate to investigate any Republican for any crime real or imagined.

But stuff like funding the troops or defending the border, fuck that.

I seem to note the F word being used quite often around here. And my use was not gratuitous, it was to emphasize the "Who gives a f*@$ k(better?)" attitude of Congress towards doing any real work.

But you forget that the with the Republicans in charge, the Duke went to prison for his transgressions, and Cold Cash Jefferson is still on the loose, and the Demorats have done squat to him for his illegal action of accepting bribes.

You guys realize what you're doing here? You're just arguing whose side is dirtier!

Face it, the Democrats and Republicans are filthy. They both lie, they both cheat, they both have had people within their party linked to criminal activities...how is one any better than the other?

I guess I am, by nature, more liberal than conservative--but I'm plenty conservative about certain things, too. I find it funny how people like Sandy just completely are incapable of seeing the dirt in their own backyards. It's laughable how Democrats and Republicans call one another criminals and corrupt, when they're both corrupt!

Largely, politics is about power. It isn't about changing the world, it isn't about making the world a better place. It's about money, power, and personal success. Some of you need to stop believing whatever your party tells you just because it's your party that's talking.

They're both full of shit.
