KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) -- African leaders handed the African Union presidency to the Republic of Congo on Tuesday, officials said, after Sudan's bid to lead the 53-nation bloc failed due to concerns over allegations it sponsored genocide in its western Darfur region.

Perhaps the AU's policy of non-indifference is getting somewhere.

Genocide. Yeah, I can see how that could be a problem..

Is there actually something to discuss here?

There would be if people cared about affairs in Africa, but the Middle East always makes bigger news.

It shows a step forward in responsibility. It also raises questions like "great - now what about Zimbabwe?"

If you're talking about the World Wars, that would be African colonies of European powers, and they generally entered the war together with their colonial masters. If you're talking about recent wars outside of Africa, well, they have enough trouble at home. Rather take the log out of their eye first, you know.
