    Please help me out.

My PC Win XP is making alarm signals - the sound alarm (a low "beep beep") that comes from the machine.
There is no alarm notification on the screen. Everything seems to run smoothly.

This first began to happen when I ran videos from Youtube in full screen. I have done so before, but from one point on, it became a problem. Now, it is bound to happen if a video is opened in full screen.
It now also happens occasionally when browsing the internet.

The antivirus program doesn't say there is anything wrong.

    What could be the problem?

    Thank you.

    Troubleshoot your audio/sound components/drivers.

Start in help or control panel.

May indeed just be a general alarm that you're hearing during browsing. If it is, listen during bootup or restart for a beep pattern that can identify the problem area. The meaning of the pattern will depend upon the Beep Code that the manufacturer of your computer's BIOS is utilizing. Once you've identified the latter, there should be troubleshooting guides online for it. The ones listed below are purely for example (i.e., a miracle if they happened to be applicable):

Video Problem: One Long Beep, Two Short Beeps

Motherboard Problem: One Long Beep, One Short Beep

    CPU Overheating: Continuous Hi-Lo Beeps

    Keyboard Error: Three Long Beeps

    Memory Error: Repeated Long Beeps

1 long beep = your cat is probably standing on your keyboard

Actually I think it would be really helpful to know if the alarm comes from the speakers or from inside the computer casing its self. Most motherboards have a built on speaker for blaring out alarms for this or that hardware problem. So in conclusion if its coming from your speakers you got some kind if software bug, if its coming from your computer its self then its a hardware problem.

I would open the case and look at whats inside, if its covered in dust that a likely culprit, blow it out with compressed air. Removed the memory sticks, blow out their sockets, reinsert them.

It's from the inside of the computer.

Just before, I have unplugged and plugged in again all the cables. No alarm yet.

Dusting makes sense. I'll see if I can do it myself.

Such alarms occur from time to time, as one posters already mentioned the types of 'beep' that occur, it's already diagnosed the problem.

If you are attempting to use a video in fullscreen and possibly beyond the resolution level of your screen or video adapter it would like cause the bleep initially. A fix might be making sure you have updated video adapter drivers and to make sure that you stay within the parameters of your screen and adapter resolution limits. (sometimes it can even be down to Refresh frequency, so don't go trying to run a higher Hz than your adapter/monitor allows and you should be fine.)

If the problem continues when you attempt to run on full screen, try reducing your desktop resolution to a lesser value and attempt running again. if you do so and the problem doesn't reoccur, then you'll know that there is a problem likely in your GFX pipelines which would be a physical defect in it's chipset. (in essence higher resolutions means more pixels are being designated putting greater load on your GFX chipset.)

    Put me down for "overheating".

How long have you had the machine, and do you smoke?

If I don't take off my heatsink fan and brush it and the heatsink with a paintbrush (being very careful to hoover the fluff up so it doesn't get sucked back in) every few months the cpu gets hotter.

I expect it would get too hot eventually. If your machine is a year old and you smoke, have cats or it's a dusty environment, it's overdue.

I've also known a crushed usb cable, a failing power supply and a wobbly clock battery to frighten the bios.

It turns out there was an awful lot of dust in the computer.
    We've cleaned that out.
After removing the fan of the processor ourselves, we saw that there is a special coating/paste between the processor and the fan, which we of course didn't have, so we had to contact the computer service.

The computer seems to run smoothly now.

Sometimes you can accidentally leave a fish taco in your casing. I've done very frequently myself. Computers don't really care for them.
