Are there any overclocking nerds out there.... like myself? Or maybe some computers geeks like myself? If so tell me what you have done to your computer for customization..ie. overclocking, case mods, etc.

I will start by saying I am studying A+ certification (on my own sweet time) and have been building/modifying/upgrading computers for about 4 years now.

I am running an Athlon XP 1800 system at about 2.2 Ghz with just air cooling and have built a clear plexiglass side panel for my case with two 80 mm fans situated to blow directly onto my processor, my graphics card and my south bridge for better cooling.

I also have 3 hard drives in my computer... a 60 GB for windows... a 4 GB for all personal files... and another 4 GB for Mandrake Linux.

    Next....

I build all of my own. I've an XP2500 mobile at 2,400 MHz. SLK900A heatsink, 90 MM fan, bunch of case fans. I've an 80 gig drive as backup, and two 120 gig drives in a RAID 0 array.

I'm still using an Epox 8K3A+ with the KT333 chipset. So to get my bus up to 209, my AGP is at 83 MHz, and my PCI is at 42 MHz.

    I've a Ti4200, but I'm seriously considering a video card upgrade soon.

Running your bus at extreme velocity! Cool.

I chose to only stress my cpu and run my FSB at just 166 on my Abit KD7 board. My temps are sitting at 39°C at idle (10% to 14% cpu load) with a Thermaltake Volcano 11 heatsink and fan.

You going nVidia or ATI for your next card? I have an older Radeon 9000 Pro 4x AGP 64 MB card will run anything I want it to. I would like to bump it to 128 MB though.... but I probably won't buy another card until the 256 MB cards fall to about $100.

Do you use all that storage? Right now I have literally waaaay more than I need installed on my PC and still have 28 GBs left on window$. My personal files drive (videos, pictures, my recordings, downloaded program files, etc) still has about 1 Gig left too. I burn a disk once it begins to fill and then wipe that info out to make room for more.

I consider myself a computer geek. I stay away from overclocking (far too expensive if one pushes it just a bit too far.) But, I have a way with computers. Always have, ever since playing with the Apple II in high school. It's a pity that the computer revolution didn't really get going until after my education. But, it's doubtful that anything useful would have been taught anyway. Here's how to use a word processing program that will be obsolete in a couple of years... Thanks guys, did me a lot of good learning appleworks. It's a pity that they didn't teach us Apple assembly language rather than software skills and basic. I found a great apple assembly tutorial on the web and with apple emulators I have now been able to learn what I could have done with the technology as a child. Shame, shame, educational system.

I picked my acer lap top myself. Well, that is not actually true. I bought the same one as my ex had (then not ex) because it seemed ok. I guess that is not geeky.

Maybe I am a computer geek though.

I am a graphics fanatic. I spend hours in illustrator and photshop each week making my own shit. And I try to keep my website going although it is basically not worth it considering the meagre 30 visits on average each day.

I did not overclock my computer that much...at least not this one. No real reason I think. I got a P4 2700 Mhz, 120 Gig drive, a slightly overclocked Radeon 9700, 512 MB of 400 Mhz DDRAM, and some CD and DVD recorders and a slightly customized case.
I think it is still sufficent.

I got my PC mods (including plexi glass case, neon lights and LED fans) from here: http://www.xoxide.com/newproducts.html

I am not too big on Insane mods but it is cool to have a cool PC.

If it does what you want it to, then it is good enough!

I have never had a problem with anything going kaput on me from overclocking. I simply remove the side cover and reset the bios jumper. All better now! (or with my current system just restart the PC and hold delete key)

I only paid $60 for my CPU and $30 for the fan and heatsink. Not very pricey stuff. The mainboard is geared to overclock and I doubt it will ever die from it.

I too had the same problem with my high school education. I took every computer class the school had to offer (with the exception of typing) and finished them all with flying colors and by my junior year there was nothing. I learned Basic on my own as a 10 year old at home on a TRS80 Color Computer II. Then did Pascal & Logo (? not sure) in school. Plus dumb word processing that was truly so simple that it was a waste of a class (for me).

Sure wish they had more to offer back then. I might have gone on to start a business in computers at an early age but I lost interest in school and said "screw" college since they didn't have much in them either. Not to mention having to take english courses when you are studying computer programming is rather absurd. Way to waste my money.

I have dabbled in graphic rendering but not very much, I am more interested in building computers.

What is wrong with 30 hits a day? I have a yahoo geocity that gets maybe a few hits a week. Just keep on doing it.

More than sufficient. Just quit overclocking? Maybe your stuff costs too much now and you don't want to risk it? (just guessing)

Xoxide is a good site. Have you tried Newegg.com?

Quitting? Why should I do that? Just not really necessary yet

I mean, I can go and play UT 2004 on highest resolution with all things on maximum and I have set my graphics card nearly to the highest possible quality setting under windows (16x antialiasing is a bit much...) and the game runs ok. So why should I overclock?
But with newer games, I think that I have to overclock a bit more...

I have heard of newegg, they are a good site too. I wish I had the money for all the mods I want. Sometimes I will shop on newegg and xoxide and then I will end up paying less for the product on eBay

When I had my 800MhZ Pentium, I overclocked it to 1Ghz, I don't have to overclock my athlon at the moment, Athlon rules.

Lol, funny comic. And somehow sad...

I saw a comic in a Scientific American a while back. It showed a guy sitting in his bed slackjawed with drool dripping from his mouth. The caption was "Failure to load Ed."

I am not a car geek (although I do dress up my car a little) but I like to do mods to my computer. It seems like I have installed/uninstalled window$/Linux umpteen times. I have added HDDs, fans, CPUs, reorganized my internal wires for maximum airflow, add/remove programs constantly and I still want to do more!

I want to tear down the system, clean it all up nicely and paint my case exterior a real dark midnight metallic blue... I just haven't had the gumption to tear apart my whole system and go without my PC for a couple days while I do the paint job. I also want to build a new side panel (this one was built for a different mainboard setup and so the fans don't line up as they did on the other one).

I have another system sitting on the desk right next to me (what I built for my GF) all ready to run in it's absence but still haven't the heart to put her out of commision for a while. *sniff*

I am thinking of giving her a name and her own identity... heheheeee. What shall I call her..............?
