All life that we know of is carbon based, right? So then, would it be possible for some other organism, such as one on another planet, to be based on a differant element? How likely would that be? Why is life carbon based?

hey enigma, nice avatar:)

about why life is all carbon-based, I think it's got something to do with carbon's great ability to form long chains with silicon, thus being able to produce the complicated molecules required by life. I read that from somewhere a while ago, and I am not 100% sure, but it's something like that
