Let's just say that I can get into just about any University and I wish to specialize in a chemistry-related field of study.
Please, oh infinitely wise ones, give me your advice . . . suggest some schools . . . do something . . .

Well, since the field you want will take a long time of study, you want to pick such a college tuition for which wouldnt make you take loans for the first 2-4 years. Then you start thinking about where to get your masters and phd.

What about literature and/or sociology?
edit: Chomsky works at MIT in the Language/Philosophy department. I might try to go there just for that reason. He's no saint, but I enjoy reading up on what he has to say and can agree with it as well.
