View Full Version : Collapse or evolution
w30dogg 11-05-04, 07:39 PM Society must change. This is a fact. We must adapt to the changes our own destruction is bringing. But because so many people are concentrating on getting a good job, being productive little members of the hive they count on others to make the changes. Government to decide what we should do about it. But is this the best way to go about it. There must be Ideas. I think media blinds people to the point that they no longer think forward.
When I think of working until retirement i wonder what is the point, but to add to the useless deconstion of our world. You can slave your life away doing whatever it is you like, even liking your job. But to what end, so you may retire one day and then do what you always wanted to do??? I can't see the point, now i understand that if everyone stopped working to pursue their own ambitions it is not possible to tell what would happen, but we could say that most likely that it wouldn't be something we are prepared for.
So I understand we must change from an Industry based society, but to what? And how could this be managed, without unbalancing everything? Is it even possible, or will we be stuck in this destructive path forever?
My Sexy Blue Feet 11-05-04, 08:11 PM I think in time we will evolve without help, just think, we evolve faster than most organisms, it just takes a bit of time
Clockwood 11-05-04, 11:09 PM This sort of thing is best not planned. Mankind will try everything whenever possible and whatever works will work. The species will take care of itself if we just take care of what the universe puts directly in front of each of us. It has done it before; it will do it again.
dogg, it's an interesting thing for me. Up until very recently, I was very optimistic about mankind's evolution toward a sort of "godhood". Lately I'm starting to think we're heading toward an implosion -- a collapse under our own dead, stupid weight.

Well you are an example of exactly what I was talking about the way you just assume that alright it will work out. I am not saying we should spend every waking moment thinking of what the futur of mankind is (instead of what our own futur is). But I think that It is something people should be more interested in developping new idea's. Instead of just sitting idly by and waiting for a devine answer should the world put together some sort of plan for what the world of the futur should be. I know that it is all very hard, and I believe that unless the world is united. As a race instead of seperated in countries, we will not care for the futur, because there is so much mistrust. So how can we move in the right direction if we don't know what that is. What if we continue to battle amongst ourselves to the point of destruction, Would it really be so bad. If all mankind we killed off, what would be the next species to rule the earth. It is very egotistical of us to think that we can not be destroyed as a race, and that the earth is ours. Givien the chance who knows what other species may evolve to become the next owners of our planet, perhaps they would do a better job?
Clockwood 11-06-04, 04:16 PM Personally, I think a united world is something we have to fear almost as much as total destruction... though it is a lot less likely to happen.
If we were united, I believe we would instantly begin to stagnate. This would get worse and worse until a light breeze could cause society to crumble. As a species, we need constant conflict of some decent degree to keep things vibrant. I fall into the 'strength from chaos' brand of philosophy.
I, for one, don't want a 'Domolition Man' type scenario for our future.
When I think of working until retirement i wonder what is the point,
financial security, ;)
You can slave your life away doing whatever it is you like, even liking your job.
if you like your job its not realy slaving,is it?
But to what end, so you may retire one day and then do what you always wanted to do???
well what exactly is it you want to do?
travel around the world?
then maybe you could get a job that pays for doing that.
such as journalist,airline pilot,etc.
.. now i understand that if everyone stopped working to pursue their own ambitions it is not possible to tell what would happen,
so if the farmers, car manufacturers, energy producers stopped working, what do you think would happen?
everyone has to do their litle or big part to keep the world economy turning to make our modern society livable.
So I understand we must change from an Industry based society, but to what? And how could this be managed, without unbalancing everything? Is it even possible, or will we be stuck in this destructive path forever?

geodesic 11-06-04, 10:40 PM I think that any serious global change will occur gradually enough for us to adapt to it, but not slowly enough that we can ignore it. Take computing, as the obvious example. Fifty years ago we had "the world market for computers is five", but now computers are an essential part of everyday life, certainly in the Western world. I think the best thing you can do is stay interested in new developments.
