View Full Version : Clarentavious: return as nerd culture mod?
I post this with the idea of direct democracy in mind. The poll should only be interpreted as a summary of how Sciforum members feel about the subject.
So Clarentavious made a mistake by editing a post. I feel like he should get a warning. I don't think that he should lose his modding ability.
Reasons why Clarentavious is a good mod:
1. He knows what he is talking about when it comes to computers. He has helped many people.
2. He holds on to the law. He will not tolerate links to warez sites, he will not support illegal music downloads.
Porfiry is of course still the big cahuna :)
Captain_Crunch 12-07-02, 06:56 AM The way i see it is: Clar abused his right as mod, demoting him shows porfiry isnt soft and it sets an example of him to all the other mods that may be contemplating editing posts unfairly here and there discretely. Fortunatly, it hasnt happened to me yet and hope clar wont do it to me when he gets re-instated as nerd mod as revenge for airing my views. :p
Cheers.
Making a mistake should not wipe away a long period of good modding.
People who voted yes should voice their opinion too!
Okee dokee
I thought he was a good mod, he could have been a little more lenient on piracy tho
He seems to have a great deal of knowledge in the field of computers

So it was a mistake that he pressed the edit button and deleted a good proportion of the post and typed in a whole bunch of shit including "i am an arsehole.."? As a result the member left the forum?
no, it was quite deliberate.
sjmarsha might not have known much about computers etc and may have not made sence full stop, but, do you think it then makes it ok for mods to step in and start editing posts of other members because they dont make sence? Its not right. If he done it once he could do it again. He was a good mod but being a good mod requires that he is always going to behave responsibly as mods have some degree of power.
I think he will not do it again. People deserve a second chance.
Captain_Crunch 12-07-02, 01:57 PM Your so called democratic poll is very biased. I dont see: no, as i dont care who does it or no, cause i think someone else should do it.
Just thought i would point that out.
Porfiry 12-07-02, 02:29 PM In my opinion, editing another user's post without making the edit blatantly obvious, especially when the edit was an attempt to insult and disparage the user, shows a serious lack of judgement.
Clarentavious 12-07-02, 02:59 PM I can't see why someone as boastful as sjmarsha, who makes such an attempt to elevate himself, would intentionally point out he misspelled a word and call himself an arse hole. Who would honestly insult themself in their own post? Why would someone do that.
All posts I have seen from this guy have pointed out nothing but trouble. He tried to convice the community he was a female. Then later in another thread (should be around here somewhere, I think back logged in Free Thoughts) when people mentioned the "Marsha" part of sjmarsha, and the fact he had an actress as his sig pic (I guess that is? if he still has it up) he revealed he was a male.
He has attacked people for "jumping on the anti-microsoft bandwagon", with no rationale to back it up. I don't like MS because their software is a pain to use, and they try to control what people do with their own computer which they have paid money for. Regardless of what anyone has said (like Avatar for example), he still accuses people of following the crowd as soon as someone has something bad to say about MS.
Then he made another post recently about how all 6 billion people on earth (except those who are extremely disabled) should be forced to grow their own food, or be killed.
I don't see a problem with putting down bad people. I'd had enough of that guy, and his comments in that thread just contributed to it. You don't send an innocent person who hasn't commited a crime to jail. You send burglars who have been convicted by a jury to jail. If you are not convinced of this guy's personality, dig up his previous posts using the search feature. I see no reason why I should spare mercy to a jerk and not insult him, when he spends most of his time insulting others.
Not very encouraging but I second what Clar said
Edit: Nevermind, it was editted
I should spare mercy to a jerk and not insult him, when he spends most of his time insulting others
The way you did it was cheap imho
as a moderator you should have closed the thread with an inform post why you did it. Nobody would have anything to object. Or you could just edit the post by deleting all the text and writing smthing like - "edited by moderator because of _________"
Instead you scoffed and ridiculed over a person.
That was not elegant and not cool
even if he wasn't worth your time
Porfiry 12-07-02, 03:35 PM Clarentavious, what you did was equivalent to libel. Perhaps worse, since you weren't merely misrepresenting or distorting what he said, but you were directly changing the written record of his words.
Yes, you're quite free to insult someone. But you're not given moderator powers to assist in your crusades. That's not the point of being a moderator, and apparently you missed the point.
Captain_Crunch 12-07-02, 03:38 PM i second what avatar said.
I totally agree with Porfiry.
fuck clarentavios
i attempt to spread a ridiculous urban legend (http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13711) and the fool calls me a liar.
if you cant see it for the joke it is, you aint fit to moderate!
bite me freak!
;)
ps: i aint mad
Ok, ok.
That would be a damned good reason for demoting him Porfiry (is that the first time you've explained your actions??)
I still think Clar should be a mod again as he did a good job (except for the obvious thing he did).
Can't we all just forgive and forget?
The only person I can think of who could do as good a job as Clar is StryderUnknown, but I doubt he'd want to do it.

lol
:D

That's not good. You should at least recognize that you did something wrong. Then you can get a warning and be forgiven.
Now there are no guaranties that you would not abuse power again if somebody kept being a jerk.
Clarentavious 12-07-02, 06:47 PM A4Ever I do feel I went too far, at least for standards of sciforums - what I was trying to get across was I don't see why everyone is making such a big fuss about it. I was trying to explain my actions.
Ha! that's good! Makes me wanna be happy again about a certain vote I did :)
But you should also see why there's a big fuss. Controlling abuse of power is something where constitutions are built around. It shouldn't be taken lightly, not even in the microcosm of an internet forum.
I thought you were at home in a corner beating your head and crying: "what did I do? why did I do that? God! How could I be so stupid?" That would be the reasonable thing to do.
Mods on Sciforums should mod more than they do. They should enter a reason why the edit was done in big red letters. They should use objective criteria as much as possible when edititng. Knowing that there is a true watchful eye will scare of people like Sjamarsha.
Under NO circumstances may mods use their power for personal vendetta.
