I know it is possible to turn desert into viable land. But why does it not happen more? For example in Africa why is it not wide spread for deslautation (sp) plants to feed crops on a mass scale? Labor in Africa is cheap and all crops are at record prices surely this is becoming much more viable? There would also be a benefit to the environment of claiming back large amount of desert.

In Gush Katif in Gaza the God-fearing Jews turned the desert into a garden oasis. Then the Nazis decided to ethnically cleanse the Jews there and give it back to the Muslims so they could turn it into a desert sewer again.
