My best friend is having a baby boy really soon and she did not want to circumcise him, but her parents told her it was extremely dangerous not to. Now she's confused about what to do. I asked her why her parents wanted him circumcised and she said it was because they said it could ruin his life if she doesn't and that no girl would want to sleep with him and he wouldn't enjoy sex properly. I think that's insane, but what do I know? Most men in the world aren't circumcised are they? Is what my friends parents said true or are they as crazy as I think they are?

Circumcision is barbaric, and totally unnecessary. It's a relic of an ancient religious tradition.

OK first off i would like to ask you what country you come from?

In the third world they DO use circumcision to help control the spread of AID's. In the first world however there is NO clinical reasons to circumcise

I am not, and i can tell you that my partner has NEVER complained about that.

there are clinical reasons against circumcision, every opening in the body excretes a form of mucus (different depending on the orifice though). This forms a barrier where the environment is conducive to good bacteria growth and discourages BAD bacteria growth. the foreskin helps to keep that area moist so that barrier is intact. If its gone then so do the good bacteria. Also there is evidence to say that circumcised men experience less pleasure during sex because the penis is less sensitive. Actually i have herd that women get more pleasure out of an uncircumcised penis as well because it moves more naturally (and that is where i am going to stop that)

So no there are no good reasons for it and a LOT of ones against it

Put it this way, if he finds that his future partner prefers a cut man he can make that choice and have it done. However if she prefers an uncircumcised man its a bit hard to stick it back on

As far as I know, there is no danger in not being circumcised, as long as the penis is kept clean. So, if your friend has access to washing facilities, I can't see how it could be a problem.

Also, think about it for a moment. Human beings have been on Earth for 100,000 years. The vast majority of them were never circumcised. But the human race has not died out as a result. What does that suggest to you?

Uncircumcised men usually have more sensitive penises than circumcised ones, so he is likely to enjoy sex more if he is not circumcised. As for women, I don't see why it would make any difference at all. Certainly it is not true that no girl will want to sleep with him, unless he lives in a region where there are silly superstitions about circumcision.

Most are not circumcised, that is true.

Asguard is right. A circumcision should be the boy's choice. It is his penis after all. If he wants it done then he can go have it done. I didn't circumcise my son and he turned out just fine has a wife and daughter. Besides most Europeans and the Japanese don't circumcise and their all alive.

Tell your best friend her parents have no idea what they're talking about, because they don't. Not being circumcised is fine.

Circumcision does seem to provide some protection from HIV, and they seem to go back and forth on other benefits (but that's a pretty good one, right there).

If you live in the US, I'd say circumcise him. (since most guys are circumcised here.) If you live in Europe, don't. That way he won't look different from everyone else. It's really no big deal either way.

I had all my boys (3) circumcised. I didn't really want to have them looking different from me, and I had no experience with the uncircumcised penis. I'd heard you had to clean them or something or they'd get infected. (But didn't want to do a bunch of research on penis care. Mine seemed to work just fine.)

FWIW, my friend needed to get circumcised when he was around 30 years old (not sure why) and believe me he wished more than anything that it was done as a child.

As others said, it's an urban myth, and only true if you live in dirt without washing for months. Is true for most of the Africa, untrue for any civilized country with access to cleaning facilities.

Nobody in the region I live in does that, except for Jews. But that's their tradition since the days they used to live in desert, and is irrational in the modern world.

the myth that uncircumcised penis's get infected is just that, a myth

All the parents need to do is teach there kid basic hygiene which I'm sure they will anyway. Oh and as to circumcising because they will look the same did you ever think that maybe girls wont care?? ESPECIALLY after they have sex and see that the sex is BETTER than uncircumcised. After all the foreskin actually IS involved in sex. Its idiotic in the extreme to put someone through pain, simply to make them look like you. Its also idiotic to put someone through it for some future perceived ability to pick up. After all if the girl wants to get his pants off do you REALLY think she will stop simply because he has a piece of skin there. Furthermore this is a question about consent, in the absence of clinical reasons for the procedure, do you really think you have the RIGHT to make a life altering decision for him like that??? especially not as mad said because he was to lazy to learn how to clean his kids properly

A penis can become infected and that isn't a myth, whether it be circumcised or not.

Life altering, how's that possible, after all its just a little skin that's removed not his whole fucking penis!

So why not chop the bottom parts of ears, it's just skin, not the whole ear?
You can get infected with earrings.

if thats your opinion why not remove the apendix at birth
how about the clitoris, compleatly unnessary unless you happen to want to ENJOY sex ever

    How about female circumcision??

Its unethical to cut off peces of your children because your to lazy to learn how to care for them

Oh and avatar i ment the myth that uncirumside people will always get infected. If you dont clean yourself there is always a risk of infection

But we are not discussing earing's are we, why then make that part of this discussion? They don't chop anything off, they remove it with a sterile knife and scissors. The old barbaric ways have been gone over 100 years now.

I think cutting off pieces of your children is in itself barbaric.

It isn't "cutting off" it is a surgical procedure which removes the foreskin, that's all. Snip, snip, and it's all over.

Ok, I think surgical procedures to remove pieces of skin from your children is in itself barbaric. There are no medical reasons to do this in a civilized country.
Happy now? I don't see a difference though, none at all.

To you, and that's your right, you can only think about what was done in the past to children and you think it was "barbaric" and that is your decision. I just think that anyone today that wants to have a child circumcised should not worry about the procedure at all. I'm not wanting to use fear in making any type of decisions about the welfare of their child but only reasoning and common sense.
