has anybody else seen this movie?

i was excited, on the edge of my seat the whole time.....and then the last 15 seconds made me want my time back.

(for those that havent seen it):
in 2009, humanity becomes infertile.
the movie takes place in 2027, starting on the day that the youngest person on earth was stabbed to death. some english ex-activist gets rolled up in a big conspiracy by his ex-wife (whom he still loves) involving...GASP!....the first pregnant woman in the world in nearly 18 years.

the movie takes place in the UK, which has become a fascist paradise (deporting all immigrants, police brutality, etc)....the rest of the world outside of britain is painted as a constant warzone, or worse....wasteland.

a good movie, just turn it off before the ending. heh.

What's wrong with the ending? It offers a conclusion to the story's essential conflict, which is all an ending is supposed to do, isn't it?

I've seen it, I thought it was great. I thought the ending was sweet and a bit lame. And I think Genji's thread on this was much better.

Anyway, yeah, what was wrong with the ending? I thought it was sweet and a bit lame. What was your problėmo with it? And don't just say "uhn, I fort it was, uhn, a bit liiiime" like Monty Python's Mr Gumby. That's circular reasoning, god damn you, and I just won't stand for it. If you're going to tell me it was lame you'd better goddamn tell me why it was lame.

Is it going to take an act of Congress/parliament to get someone to tell us the friggin ending??? I haven't seen it nor do I want to so it's ok to spoil it.

Yes, months ago. His has got two!!! pages and better comments. Someone probably says what's wrong with the ending at some point. Doesn't seem like a snowball in hell's chance of that happening here.

i didnt know genji had made a thread on this movie.Mm-Hm. I surely did.
I loved it so much after seeing it at the theater I bought it when it came on DVD. One of the best movies of 2006 imo. I loved the ending. Seeing a chance for humanity after all through the saving grace of a ship called The Tomorrow.
Clive Owens was the perfect anti hero. Great film I thought too.
The scenes of the refugee (or fugee) areas of the city under full assault from Brit troops reminded me of how the Palestinians live under Israel in the occupied territories and Gaza, even Lebanon.
Seeing how it appears we advanced a little then the bottom dropped oyt and infrastructure just crumbles.
28 Weeks Later, also set in London, reminds me of this movie, but with zombies.
Note all the familiar signs of our current world of fear building into this nightmare world? "REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY" "REPORT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS." "BRITAIN SOLDIERS ON." And the government doing bombings to keep up the war on 'terror.'

i liked in particular the sign when (i think) they are entering the refugee camp that hung overhead "HOMELAND SECURITY".

i cracked up at that one.

And wasn't the entry into the Abu Ghraib like, Guantanamo facility in the buses positively chilling?! I also loved the slowed down "Goodbye Ruby Tuesday" playing in the background at Michael Caine's house.

i watched it on a movie link site....:( no dvd features, just click, load, watch, close.

to make myself clear, they only part of the movie i didnt like was the last 15 seconds or so. a little to sappy for my taste. i would have rather one of those fighter jets strafe their boat, keeping in line with the hopeless feeling of the movie.

I liked it when Michael Caine got killed in the face. I love seeing that bastard get shot. I also like it when people say they hated the ending of a film but won't tell you why. That really cracks me up.

He suggested they could have ended the film as they both drifted into the foggy ocean. I appreciated the ending though.

heh.:bugeye: Hmm. I pictured you looking like Ed Norton in his American History X role. (without the swastika tattoo of course.) You know, sexy goatee, young, lean, etc.
I would like some of Caine's character's strwberry weed but damn I'd be sooo paranoid in that world I doubt I could handle it!!!!!!!!

The first one was quite low budget. Sounds like they had a bit more to spend for this one.

For some reason the threads in this fora only go back 2 pages so double threads are common.

Children of Men was also very low budget but it very much worked. Look at Spiderman. Millions in production and it's stupid!! (imo)
