Why do they say he is abandoned if his grandfather is supposedly looking after him? And will it adversely affect the child to do this? (I think the child is in more harm of being trampled on)

Abandoned Cambodian boy suckles from cow

KOAK ROKA, Cambodia — A Cambodian man says his young grandson has lived partly on milk he suckles directly from a cow since the boy's parents left their rural village in search of work.
Um Oeung says 20-month-old Tha Sophat started suckling the cow in July after he saw a calf do the same.
Um Oeung told The Associated Press he pulled the boy away at first. He relented after his grandson protested loudly and the boy has suckled the cow's milk once or twice a day since then.
Tha Sophat has lived with his grandparents in Siem Reap province in
northwest Cambodia since his parents moved to Thailand looking for work.
Um Oeung said Friday the cow doesn't mind the boy suckling but he is worried about his grandson's health if he continues.

Do you believe everything you read from the press? This story sounds like someone is creating something out of nothing to gain notice or put a spin so others will pick up on its oddity.

Yeah, I think the grandfather is trying to make a buck off the kid. But the child is obviously suckling off and animal.

I didn't think it was odd. I was wondering if it would harm the child beyond the threat of being trampled.

We had milk cows but we washed teh udders then strained, separated, and cooled the milk before drinking it.

Me thinks this image was staged to stir the pot again.

Nobody has mentioned what else that child eats. But I don't imagine a dirty cows tit causes much harm. It's more of a psychological problem for adults that see that picture. For anyone that has kids they can't help thinking how they would feel if that was their kid. So it produces a shock effect, which as others pointed out was intended.
