If Mohammad could, why shouldn’t they be allowed?

    Mohammad & Ayesha:
IF ITS GOOD ENOUGH FOR MOHAMMAD, it must be enforced by Sharia law, no? what do the hadiths say?

I thought you didn’t agree with The Prophet’s teachings? Why are you using his teachings and traditions as a benchmark for the way others live their lives?

Okay, so you write out a sentence, then cherry-pick a weak counter claim (from a rabid anti-Islam hate site), and that’s your opening post. You don’t actually make a point, you offer no context, you only offer a distorted and incomplete picture. Ridiculous. To begin with, Aisha was Abu Bakr's daughter, this was the Prophet's closest Companion and the leader of the Muslim Ummah after the Prophet Muhammad. The friendship between Muhammad and Abu Bakr was one built on trust, love and respect, they both had a very strong bond with eachother. Now did the Prophet force Abu Bakr to give him his daughter in marriage? Huh? Hahahaha. Abu Bakr was happy with the Prophet marrying his daughter, in fact, it was an honour. Aisha herself was very close to the Prophet during her life:

So yeh mate, what point are you actually trying to make?

European Kings/Princes married young brides well after the time of the Prophet. Something that many gloss over. Why is Muhammad’s marriage to Aisha such a big deal?

What should be enforced by Shariah law?

Islam gives great importance to marriage, it is not only seen as a marriage between a man and woman, but a marriage between 2 families. The role of marriage in Islam is emphasised many times, it is considered a half of religion - marriage is the way of the Prophets. There are some inflexible rules though. Forced marriages are a no-no. No woman can be forced to marry against her will, Islam gives women that protection.

You do have cases now where some guy marries a young girl however a lot of the time the girls parents are very poor and they accept the marriage proposal simply because they need the money (they can’t support the girl). This is a very important point that many seem to miss. The girl’s happiness, health etc. are paramount, they are protected by Islam, they are protected by the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. The reality is that in poor countries you are more likely to come across cases of people having to give their daughters away simply because they cannot afford to raise them. And the people in poorer regions are more likely to be uneducated (less likely to know their rights etc.), this does not help the situation one bit. Are child marriages common in places where there is less poverty? I seriously doubt it. But please delve a little deeper into the issue, don’t just take it at face value.

Does anyone else think the nice lady had a point? That the way many muslims are proceeding is an abomination? That they should reevaluate their ideals?

How many years ago? and it isn't happening any more, and if it does happen it is prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
