Do you give money to some charity? If so, what kind of a charity and why? Is giving to charity popular in your country?
Yes, I do and quite regulary. I consider which charities to be of a personal and private nature. The purpose is quite simple - to help other people who need help. And yes, it's quite a popular thing in my country - the U.S.A.
Is charity popular in the USA to somewhat compensate for the lack of social services? Or does it have other reasons? Do people mostly give to charity organizations that are local or those that give money to foreign causes?
p.s. I have no agenda in these questions. I simply contemplated on giving a bit money to a local animal shelter and started thinking on the nature of charity and why do people give to it.
People give because they are kindhearted and sympathetic about certain issues that affect them personally. If you see something that you think needs help then you should give what you can. But just be certain that the money actually goes into the support of the charity and not into "operating" expenses like the Presidents paycheck or other such things. A good charity will be more than happy to let you see their records to prove themselves and those that won't let you see anything are just using you. i give money to the "terrance higgins trust" and i donate to "cancer research" because i would like people to find a cure for aids and cancer
I give money to the Tim Hortons kids charity, because it's more convenient than keeping small change. In fact, I don't even believe in charity. Any cause that I give money to is out of a pure self-interest.
