Hello!

I was just watching Nova and they were showing an under the sea special with Cephalopods, they showed a particularly interesting one, the Cuddle fish, which can change the hue/patterns on its skin to camouflage with nearby plants, sands, rocks etc.

I wonder if it would be possible to replicate this ability with nanotechnology or the like? An active camouflage suit would be a joy to behold, eh?

They're workin' on it !

Active camouflage (http://photonswarm.com/futurology/?article=6)

Current breakthroughs in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) bring the construction of flexible active camouflage "suits" closer. OLEDs are made from semiconducting organic polymers (for example polyacetylene, used by mammals), and can be "printed" onto a flexible substrate using traditional ink-jet technology. OLEDs also do not require backlights, making them extremely useful for displays with a very small cross section. This makes them an attractive candidate for active camouflage.

By the by, maybe they do like to cuddle, but it's cuttlefish

Here is a quote for ya "I got pulled over by a virginia state trooper, he said "radar detectors are illegal in the common wealth of virginia!" I said "well, I betch ya cloaking devices are illegal too, good bye!"
