View Full Version : Ceasefire???
Chris63 03-26-03, 12:49 PM Is it possible?? How do you think??
Abu Dhabi, Alittihad Daily, 3/26/2003 -- The UAE leading semi-official daily newspaper, Alittihad, reported today that a US government delegation has arrived in Amman, Jordan, yesterday in its way to Baghdad for negotiations with the Iraqi government about an immediate ceasefire.
A diplomatic source told Alittihad that the US government delegation included four leading members of Congress as well as the daughter of the US Vice President, Dick Cheney, representing the US Department of State, where she works as an Assistant to the Deputy of the Secretary of State for Middle Eastern Affairs.
The news comes from http://www.aljazeerah.info
I don't think a ceasefire is generally possible at this point. The discussion would sound a bit like this:
US: Are you ready to quit?
Iraq: Are you ready to quit?
US: Give us everything we want, that you wouldn't give us before, and we'll stop.
Iraq: Get the f--k out of my country!
Of course, I'm hopeful, but after blundering concessions blew up in our face the last time, I don't expect the US to settle for anything but Saddam Hussein delivering himself straight to prison, and that might not even be enough to stop Dubya.

Asguard 03-26-03, 03:25 PM i LAUGHED when i herd this on the news this morning (reported on ABC radio, the public owned station here)
poor bush, did nasty sadam fire back
It should be noted that Richard Armitage was on Lehrer last night and rejected any talk of ceasefire negotiations; it would seem to be a press fabrication, as he has seen nothing of the sort in his duties as Deputy Secretary of State. Yes, yes ... this would probably go through DOD at this point, and who doesn't expect a snowjob from the Bush administration? But it seems worth noting.

A Saudi Prince today gave an interview with CBCRadioOne in which he said that Saudi Arabia had presented a peace offer to the Iraqi and American side. He said they had received no return from either side but expected the Americans to reject it and the Iraqi's to reject it without major changes.
Asguard 03-26-03, 03:37 PM just a note tiassa
with all the lies floating around can we really belive ANYTHING that ANYONE says
i mean if the US goverment was that worried about this stupid war would they really admit it?
i dont know
could be real, could be wishful thinking but it gave me a laugh
And, in addition, what would we say of the US if they entered a war without keeping an ear open for peace offers? The fallout would be unkind, to say the least. I may think Dubya a dumbassed thug, but not even the biggest dumbass is perfect: Bush is not surrounded entirely by stupid people. Powell would not be in service of his nation at present, I would imagine, if we did not have a permanent ear opened in this conflict to pick up and chase every hint of a ceasefire, surrender, or otherwise. No American military man, former or present, would enter a war without keeping open a way out.

Psycho-Cannon 03-27-03, 05:58 AM I dont think they thought they needed one and it wasnt going to be an issue, i agree Bush is too dumb to survive even a week without being surounded by smarter people telling him what to say and do but they fact they sent in small force rushing to Bagdhad and were suprised when this headlong rush ignoring the Majority of the Iraqi army still gave them a hard time and then were suprised when it left them surrounded and vunerable...shows they are not so smart as you would hope.

Is it possible?? How do you think?? This is really ridiculous. Why will a US delegation contemplate a Ceasefire, when they themselves have started all this mess?
However, there’s a risk of falling into a stalemate, but before that many, many more people has be killed and in particular innocent civilians.
