    Hi,

I am a undergraduate psychology student in England who (hopefully) will graduate in May 2006. The problem I'm having is that I have absolutely no clue as to what I want to do, in terms of a career. And to be honest, I'm not sure of my choices.

What job opportunites do I have as a BSc graduate? Where do I start looking?

I was briefly thinking of going for the MSc in health psychology, but I very much doubt I have what it takes!

    Hi there Cyrus,

I have just completed an Msc Health Psychology (in September) and absolutely loved it. However, I would urge you to get a much better understanding of the subject before making any decisions as it is quite a new area. If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask.

As far as BSc graduate opportunities are concerned, I am afraid that most opportunities come after the MSc. That is what I have found anyway. However, it would still be worth subscribing to the BPS so that you get the Appointments Memorandum. This highlights assistant psychology and research positions, which may be of interest to you. You may also find www.jobs.ac.uk usefu.

I wish you the very best in whatever you choose to do and if I can help in anyway, please let me know.

P.S. Where abouts are you studying?

Hi Alex, and thanks for your response.

Wow, I was actually thinking of doing an MSc in Health Psychology.
As part of my third year option, I've chosen to do a (introductory) course in HP. It's pretty straightforward I think. I find it very interesting and easy (hope I don't jinx it now, hehe). A huge part of it has to do with my lecturer though. She is very knowledgable and makes the subject easy to understand. Had my final exam exactly one week ago, and I hope to do well on that.
My questions to you are; how was the course set up, how were you assessed and how did you find the dissertation?

We've been advised to subscribe to the BPS, but I never thought it would be useful. I will however do this now!

I have some concerns for pursuing an MSc degree. Some of them are:

    - I've been in school/university for 15 years now. I haven't had a break at all. So I'm physically and mentally exhausted.

    - I have also worked up a very large debt due to my studies. I think it's about £32K ($56K) now. I know if I graduate that up to 40% of the loan will be erased, but still...we're talking about a lot of money here.

    - Should I do a postgraduate degree, it'll cost me at least £10K ($17K)

    - I've been struggeling with the work ever since I came to university. I feel I'm a smart person, but I'm having problems understanding certain things. I don't get very high marks even though I try my best.

    - The thought of doing a 15K-20K word dissertation is very daunting! I'm already struggeling with coming up with material for an essay with 2500 word limit.

I study at Greenwich university. I'm actually an overseas student, so I've only been here for 3-4 years.

    Thanks again!
