View Full Version : Car Hoons: Australia
Jeremirroer 06-07-05, 02:37 AM In recent years in Australia(and in particular Sydney) has been overcome by young car hoons. They drive around the city in cars full of losers/idiots blazing their music, shouting obscenities, acting tough, probably taking drugs and getting up to god knows what else.
They congregate in huge groups and just loiter around areas such as Brighton Le Sands and Bondi. Usually coming from well out of the city, they come in and seemingly attempt to ruin it for everyone else.
They have shut down George Street in the Rocks near Sydney CBD in an effort to combat part of the problem. But this certainly is not enough.
s
They have also enacted new laws today restricting P-platers from driving high powered cars, which i think is great. I can't stand seeing some 17 y.o. punk speeding down the road with a car load of youngsters. It's these people who you see in the news wrapped around a telegraph pole.
Personally i think all these guys are fuckwits and will never amount to anything in life, except maybe going to gaol or something similar. I wouldn't have a problem if they all died, but thats just too extreme.
Does anyone have a defense of these people?
Does anyone live in a different city where the same thing goes on?
What do other people think of these people?

Who are you, Fred Nile? They're teenagers, what do you expect? Did you not experience "car hoons" when you were a teenager?

shit no.
vslayer 06-07-05, 05:43 AM what you refer to as hoons are really jsut up theselves rich captialists with too much money to spend on cars. if you want to see actual racing then come out of the city where te real reacnig goes on:
we buy $500 shitheaps, tune up the engines, then do 150kmph drift races an dirt roads overtop of 20m drops into the ocean. thats what itsa ll about, not showing off who can squeeze the most money out of their stupid parents
Jeremirroer 06-07-05, 05:55 AM yeh i'm all for honest innocent fun and doing up a shitbox....
What shits me is those losers who come into the city and start fights etc and shit. and hang around Stanmore Macdonlads.

It's not just a problem in Sydney. It's a problem in pretty much every state and probably in most countries as well. If they swear at you, maybe you're driving too slow. If their music is too loud for you... possibly you're too old. If a bunch of teenagers are too tough for you, ermm maybe you should just stay home. And are they taking drugs? Who knows and who cares?
If they bother you that much, call the police but then again that would be a waste of time as the police of late have tended to just turn a blind eye to the problem. The new laws enacted of late appear to be an olive branch to the general public who are sick of having roads taken up and closed down by a bunch of twits who want to drag race. In Queensland at one point, they'd taken to grouping together on the freeway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and blocking all the cars in between them and then slowing down and doing 40kms. In such cases, stick behind the large trucks as they seemed to not try and block the semi's in... wonder why.. anywho...
Look, hoons exist everywhere. Taking away their licences and their cars does nothing. If you take away their car, they simply get another one on the road within months. If you take away their licence, they simply drive without one. However I guess that if they did confiscate their cars repeatedly, they'd think twice, but who really knows in the end? An excess of petrol fumes might result in irrational behaviour and thought patterns and they'd simply keep hooning up other cars. If P-plater's are restricted in what car they can drive, they simply don't show their P-plates on their cars. It's a stupid little measure that does nothing. They will find a way around it or they will just ignore the laws and regulations.
Who are you, Fred Nile? They're teenagers, what do you expect? Did you not experience "car hoons" when you were a teenager?
HEH! Oooohhh calling someone Fred Nile is a bit harsh don't you think? :p
Personally I didn't experience the "car hoon" phenomenon, but then again I wasn't interested in destroying my tyres or brakes doing burnouts or donuts. Paying over $120 a pop for each tyre tended to put to bed the wish of burning rubber so that smoke came out of the arse of my car. While I did speed however... :D ... it was not because I was a hoon, it was because I was impatient and wished to get to my destination much faster...
One way to solve the hoon problem... easy... open up special race tracks or something and let them destroy their tyres and brakes to their hearts content and get out of my way on the public roads. Create competitions or races or such to encourage the little petrol heads to head to the track and compete against the other little weiners wanting to ruin their tyres. They need incentives to not do it on the general roads and do it elsewhere. Not letting them drive high powered cars won't work. Confiscating their cars won't work, nor will taking away their licences.
Jeremirroer 06-07-05, 06:30 AM perhaps i should rephrase my problem.
The problem is not the driving of cars. It is the people in those cars. Namely the gangs.
Last month there was a shooting in the Rocks, a popular tourist destination and at a Macdonalds near my house, a nice suburb.
These people are social misfits. I'm not talking about drag racers. I'm talking about morons who drive in full cars and go out and rape girls.

They're not called car hoons. They're referred to as rapists. There is a difference. Not all car hoons are rapists just as not all rapists are car hoons. If you're the type to look at a car filled with teenage boys and see them as rapists..? Well if that's the case, they don't have the problem, you do.
kazakhan 06-07-05, 07:15 AM shit no.
So, you've always lived under a rock then :p
You wouldn't have liked the shaggin' wagons of the seventies then, I wonder if they'll make a comeback :D

you're missing the point. Thanks for adding nothing to the discussion except pointless negativity.

yeh..
obviously..
under a rock...
that's comedy that just writes itself isn't it...?
I must be a neo-conservative.
spidergoat 06-07-05, 11:47 AM What are you complaining about? That's "car culture", kids have done that everywhere. In my hometown, they drove huge monster trucks and congregate at MacDonald's. There's just nothing better to do. In California, the "car hoons" have shotguns and automatic weapons, and they are in real gangs like the crips and bloods.

yeh these are gangs too.
Wow, this is a really funny thread, reading about a bunch of Aussies gripe about 'gangs'. As if you have real crime in Australia. So the kids drive around real fast. Old people drive real shitty, too. Dirving seniles are as dangerous as driving drunks. Your kiddies in Kangarooland don't carry, so you're just complaining about kids who drive cars.
How many times have you had these teens pull a gun pulled on you, old man? None? Then what the hell are you complaining about?

Of course we only have pseudo crime in Australia
We certainly dont have anywhere near the amount of guns as the US but that doesn't mean they are not available. Australian youth involved in gun crime is definitely on the rise.
vslayer 06-20-05, 05:01 AM the gangs in the southern hemisphere are jsut as dangerous as your ones. jsut last weekend my brother and some mates had about 30 kids from some car gang try to kill them because they called the kids car a POS
Haha, how many school shooting have you had in your state?
Alaska had the very first school massacre. Bitch, submit.

You must be so proud.
kazakhan 06-22-05, 04:20 AM Haha, how many school shooting have you had in your state?
A couple of years ago and not very far from here a young bloke shot his ex-girlfriend at school with a cross-bow. As Bells mentioned it's not something to be proud of...
vslayer 06-24-05, 09:21 AM umm. we dont have school shootings, but the majority of us carry knives
Koyaanisqatsi 06-24-05, 09:51 AM Only because you love it that everyone knows you're carrying them.
90% of you wouldn't have the guts to use it, nor know how to if you had to.

I can probably relate more to spidergoat. I see the crips and bloods once and a while. If car hoons are what spidergoat's talking about, it sounds like its a lot worse here then there. Here they're usually called driveby's. They'll drive around, and plan it out. If they don't like someone, they drive by somewhere they know that person will be, and creep by, and shoot them. Lets say someone does a drug deal with someone, but doesn't pay up, and runs. The next night, if a driveby happens, that person will probably be dead. I would tell you what crip stand for, but I've forgotten. I'll look it up later. Hopefully this is what you are talking about, or at least something similar to it
Ok, I didn't read the bottom posts on page 1. This is just pathetic. I regret posting my first post. I'm just doing this to say 1 last thing. Ok, the world itself has a lot of violence, and is this good or bad? I would think that most of you say that it's bad. And look at this, we're almost ENCOURAGING violence. We're BRAGGING about how much violence we have!! It's pointless and stupid. Ya, so the USA has more gang shootings. So what? I live in the USA, but is that really something to be proud of? I think not. I've been to the ghetto's and slums, but thankfully I dont live there. We need to quit bragging about violence, and try to control it to a minimum or better yet, none at all (though I doubt this could happen.)
I had no idea there were so many idiots here.
A high crime rate is not something to be proud of. There is crime everywhere, in different levels.
there have been *car hoons* as long as there have been cars. It's called, men with big toys as small dick replacement.
Frank King 06-25-05, 09:12 AM Does anyone have a defense of these people?
I don't have a defense for "these people" all i want to say though is what is wrong with having some "pride in you ride", some "heart for you cart", my double sub woofers in my lowered skyline with my 20 inch custom mad rims are fully sick and i think if some people put as much energy in to something like i do my car i think the worl would be a better place.
Does anyone live in a different city where the same thing goes on?
I live in the Gold Coast, which is the only place to coast
What do other people think of these people?
"These poeple" what is this, "These people"
Car Hoons Stink!
Don't you like the smell of petrol, if you were a man you would like the smell of petrol!!
Though I have to admit I love tight rides. I want to get a red 95' Cady with hyrdrolics, maybe black flames, not sure. And I think spinners would be to much, but defitently chrome rims. No white-wall tires though. And get the engine running great. I may not have enough for this, but I can dream:)
Mystech 06-27-05, 11:53 AM Man oh man, what's this thread even about? I thought Australians spoke English.

Don't let them tell you anything, just go out and have your fun just as they did when they were your age. Just don't drink and drive for that could kill you as well as your mates! Enjoy it while you can for one day you'll be old and cantankerous like some here already are! ;)

We use to have some guys that hung out round here that got referred to as the "Jettiboy's."
I know what most of them got up to because I had been with them once or twice, it's known they did use to hang out and they did use to do things that others didn't like being done, however the main reason for this was because they didn't have any pre-arranged activities to do and they'd get bored and well... do some silly things.
It's known they use to occasionally race about, however for the most part they cruised up and down the seafront looking at what ever holidaymakers were about. They didn't drink and drive and for the most part didn't do drugs either (although some of the people that might turn up once and while might of done such things). Usually they had jobs that required them to be focused during the day and they didn't really have any other hobbies than their cars.
The problem however is the difference in the hobbiest thats got some experience in their hobby (and the unwritten rules of the road) over the novice want-to-be youth that's just got a car together and can be wreckless in trying to promote status among the others. (you could suggest their wrecklessness isn't promoted by such groups but their own psychological evaluation of how they think the group see's them.)
I know of such a wreckless act in regard to a cousin who had only had his license for a few months, he'd befriended this other guy that drove who was a notorious driving abuser (drove wrecklessly, had been pulled on numerous occasions for varying offenses.) Well he and this guy were doing as they usually do (driving offensively in regards to one another but around the speed limit) however they did it through a city centre, my cousin narrowly missed a pedestrian that was crossing the road, however the guy he was with in the other car hit him square on.
The pedestrian hit the tarmac and went into a comma, he was hit with such force that he never regained consciousness and they eventually turned off life support. (The guy died) If he had survived, he would of been vegetablised.
My cousin and that guy did stop at the scene, however they were sentenced to 3 1/2 years each in Jail. It was unfair on the part of my cousin because he didn't actually hit the guy and was only driving like he was because of this other guy's "experience" over his own. (The Manslaughter sentence shouldn't of been split between them, it should of been pretty much just on that guy and that guy alone considering his previous offenses).
However they weren't from or in the town where the Jettiboy's hung out,
The sort of silly things they could get up to could of been things like burnouts and Handbrake skids, for the most part they didn't actually race that fast (within the speed limit).
What they could of done with is legitimate places to practice their hanging out, somewhere as a 'skid pan' for their burnouts and skids. If it was legitimately handled properly, the promoters could even make a decent amount of revenue for an area while promoting various safety means.
The usual ones that end up in the accidents aren't actually those that hangout, but those that get drunk with people and then attempt to take a carload home. I've known other people to be killed or suffer from amputations or permanent physical disability from such drivers.
Unfortunately though it takes a few people doing these stupid things for the others to realise what jeopardy they can place people in if they think and act wrecklessly. This is why those loiters (that aren't hobbiests) tend to shift in size as people begin to gain more attuneness to responsibility over the wrecklessness of youth.
Fraggle Rocker 10-15-07, 04:48 PM It sounds like gasoline is just too cheap in Australia if you've got punks able to drive for fun. We have the same problem in the U.S. Gas is still less than $4.00 a gallon, and American children have so much discretionary income that they can afford to spend it on cruising. I'll bet you don't see that pastime in countries where motor fuel is priced closer to market value, which is more like $4.00 per quart.
Hoodlums in cars don't bother me half as much as "respectable" citizens driving SUVs, getting 12 miles per gallon (20 l/100km) and taking up half the road. At least the kids don't drive in rush hour, making the traffic even worse.
Baron Max 10-15-07, 06:27 PM Hoodlums in cars don't bother me half as much as "respectable" citizens driving SUVs, ....
Well, I don't know, Fraggle, you might have to change your mind if you lived in Dallas. Down here, the hoodlums drive around in SUVs shooting other people on the freeways! They also drive on the big, high overpasses and shoot bullets into apartment buildings along the highways.
Baron Max
