I am using the Windows 8 Consumer Preview installation but for the life of me I can't figure out anyway of changing the login password. I logged in with my Hotmail ID and it works fine, but later there seems to be no way of changing the damn password. I've tried CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2, the Control Panel, etc.

When I changed my password in Hotmail it didn't change on the Windows 8 login prompt even though it claims the two are connected?! WTF Microsoft idiots test this shit it's a simple thing ridiculous!

I understand that when one installs the actual Windows 8 program, one has to have the Consumer Preview install first removed. I would then not expect this demo preview to, as you said, "work fine" as a stand-alone usable Windows 8 functionality program.

I'll stick to my Windows 7. We're not far from a jump from moving apps with finger movements to the screen, then moving apps with direct thought (brain/computer wifi interface) movements. Windows 10 or 11?

    consumer preview installation?
isn't that another way of saying "beta"?
it's my understanding that software in the beta stage isn't exactly glitch free.

Situation 1: You remember the current Windows 8 password

When you remember your current Windows 8 password, you can change your Windows 8 password within minutes on your own. Actually, changing password on a regular basis is often regarded as a good habit to secure your Windows 8 system.

Step 1. Log in with your account and press “Windows key + C” and then select “Settings”. Also, find “Change PC Setting” under it to open the PC Settings window.

Step 2. Click on “Users” and then choose the “Change your password” line on the right.

Step 3. Now, enter into your current password, and click “Next”.

Step 4. Then, you will be able to input your new password and you can also leave a password hint.

Situation 2: You’ve forgotten your current Windows 8 password

When you’ve forgotten your current Windows 8 password and you’re locked out of your Windows 8 PC, to change the original password yourself is much more complicated. However, if you have a Windows 8 password reset tool in hand, it can also be done in minutes. In general, if you have created a Windows 8 password reset disk before you forget your Windows 8 password, there is no doubt that it is the best tool for your to change your forgotten Windows 8 password, even if you don’t know much computer skills or even you’re a newbie.

However, it is more common that we don’t have a Windows 8 password reset disk in hand. Then a third-party tool can be useful to us. These tools can be commercial or free. For free ones, such as, LCP, John the Ripper, etc, are mostly reliable but have some limitations to the forgotten password. And commercial tools seem to be more powerful. Anmosoft Windows Password Reset, for instance, can enable you to reset any Windows password in a few minutes and it is universal to many platforms.

    Wondersladies,
Wonderful advertisement of third-party applications (which will likely "rootkit/trojan" your installation, avoid!).

While this is an old thread on a prelude to Win 8, there are ways to deal with password problems. First off is don't use that Administration account as the main account, this way you can keep that for sorting out any problems you might run into (like forgetting passwords), obviously that account will require a password and that's usually the one that has a reset disk made for, keep it safe.

If you've created a user account with your Live ID then you can change your password through a web browser on another computer, you will require various details and it won't be immediate. This will only be useful for those that have a constant internet connection.

Alternatively there is just a point of creating a secondary user with administrative rights, you can then use that account to change the first account.

While password programs are handy to generate lengthy passwords or hashes, the problem is that to get to an environment to run the program to use the password requires first getting logged in. A potential work round to this problem is if you use a PDA, Smartphone or other device to operate the password program from and then manually copy it into the login screen. (Be forewarned, don't save password lists on cloud enabled devices for security reasons)
