When you ask of RPG you should mention if you mean a MUD/MOO (Multiplayer Role playing) or just a game you can play on your own or perhaps connect with up to 16 friends etc.

Yeah, you're right. Sorry. I like all of them, but right now I just want something I can play on my own. Maybe later, something MMO, etc.

First I need to confess that I wrote it myself and that it's a text-based game (just words, no graphics). That being said, let me tell you a little bit more...

I'm an avid fan of time travel stories and always have wanted to write one of my own. But I had trouble with this: If you can't change the past it makes it hard to write an interesting story. But if you can change the past the stories usually don't make sense, especially with regard to the motivation of the time traveller.

Oddly enough, I think this game has overcome these issues in a way I haven't seen in fiction before. Then again, I haven't read everthing.

In this game you can make multiple trips to the same time period to cooperate with the actions that you took on a previous trip to the same time period.

The game has some humorous "cameo appearances" as homages to Star Trek, Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Lord of the Rings, and The Wizard of Oz.

So far the main criticism of the game that I've heard so far is that there's too much science and technology imbedded in the puzzles. You'll have a head start in the game if you've heard of Archimedes, Newton, Gallileo, and Dmitri Mendeleev.

Neathergate and the Avernum series are pretty good and would probably be worth looking into. They let you play roughly half the game before you have to decide if you want to pay for a code to get any further. You might also like to check out the Geneforge series. Single person though.

Muds and the like, you can't walk five paces with out tripping over one. Their golden age is done, but there are still pleanty. One of my friends has kids who are still into ultima online as well.

Gamehouse.com . I don't know what kind of games you like to play. No running down hookers with stolen armored cars while shooting policemen with nuclear weapons and escaping from anthrax-contaminated dinosaurs. But if you're looking for challenging adult games they have quite a library. A lot of the games have free versions you can play on the web until you get good enough to exceed the levels. By then you're ready to decide if you want to buy it.

If you're a regular player, Big Fish Games has a good deal going with their clubhouse. You can get new games for less than $10. And you can download it over and over from your account, so you don't need to keep it on your computer.
