Traditional agriculture and domesticated animals are the basis of most civilizations. It allows for the division of labor and specialization. This specialization allows trades to develop like shipbuilding and gunsmithing, and all the inventions we love and admire. Unfortunately, this happenstance provides fodder for racists, even though there are many black inventors and scientists who have been able to take advantage of the legacy of western civilization, just as their white counterparts have done. Although I felt the same way a couple months later when I went to the Indiana/Ohio border and saw all white people. That actually felt even weirder, heh.
