View Full Version : CSA-The Movie
www.csathemovie.com/ - 3k
I saw this film last night and recommend it to anyone interested in good political fiction/satire.
Written more than 5 years ago by a Kansas City native it made the rounds in Europe and did very well. After a tough marketing experience in the US the Confederate States of America is now finally on DVD.
Imagine an America where the South won the Civil War (War of Northern Aggression as it is called in the movie) and our history is changed completely? Only one or two battles won by the Union prevented the world presented in the movie.
It's a faux British documentary, complete with faux commercials about the CSA and our slaveocracy that flourished until the 1970's.
Lincoln dies a lonely bitter man in exile in Canada.
Long Island is where Jews are sent to live in camps.
The US allies with Nazi Germany
Slave-TV. A home shopping Network devoted to slave sales
The Stars and Bars planted on the moon.
Very interesting film, with a sense of humor.

Didnt they? someone told me they did brother/
Prince_James 01-09-07, 01:01 AM Although the premise is funny, the result is utterly sterotypical and completely ahistorical.
Although the premise is funny, the result is utterly sterotypical and completely ahistorical. There are alot of unlikelies, like JFK still becoming president but it is interesting seeing history scrambled around just enough to change the world even.
History Buffs: Is it true, as Spike Lee has suggested, that if the Union had been defeated at Gettysburg that the Confederacy would have won the war?
CSA is a worthwhile film to watch. I wish more movies took political fiction to this level.
Didnt they? someone told me they did brother/As much as I loathe backward southern redneck culture and it's strength in the USA (NASCAR, racism, sexism, The Allman Brothers) I'm really glad the Civil War didn't turn out as it does in the movie. Just when you think you've got it bad you realize it could have been a whole helluva lot worse. Though as a very white blue eyed male I would assume a position on the top of the food chain, I most certainly would have to keep some things about myself TO myself.

Yes. If the Confederacy had won Gettsyburg, the Union likely would have sued for peace. There would have been virtually no defense possible with their forces defeated at home.

I've always assumed the North was far more advanced and powerful but if a loss here & there is all it would have taken to make the USA the CSA it should send shudders up alot of spines.

The Stars and Bars?
That really happened...
Perhaps you're thinking of the Confederate flag instead?
I find it unlikely that the country would adopt the confederate flag after such an event. The US flag would likely have remained the same.
Hell, I doubt that Dixie would much care for their flag flying over Jew York City...

Hell, I doubt that Dixie would much care for their flag flying over Jew York City...At least in these parts the "Stars and Bars" is the Confederate flag.
I can't imagine the Confederacy adopting the flag of their hated enemy after the war.
invert_nexus 01-09-07, 09:37 PM Hmm.
Maybe you're right.
I did a google image search and the first few hits were the confederate flag.
I always thought the term referred to the standard flag.
Interesting.

They were always Americans.
Hell, the truth is that if the Confederates won the war then there would be two Americas. Not one.
By the way, did you know the original US was a confederacy? The Articles of Confederation. The states had more power than the federal government. It turned out not to work very well so they switched over.

It would have slowed our development significantly.
Have you seen CSA??
invert_nexus 01-09-07, 09:46 PM No, never even heard about it til this thread.
But, that's the way it would be. It was the North that desired the Union be preserved. The South just wanted out. Victory for the Union was one country. Victory for the South would be two nations.
This was why the war was fought on the South's soil as well.
The South fought a defensive war.
Think of it like this. The Vietnamese won their war, right? Today, there's one Vietnam.
But, South Korea won their war. Today, two Koreas.
Different goals.
But, it is possible that the nations would have reunited at some point.
Also to consider would be the fact that a divided America would not have been as strong against the other powers of North America. Mexico.
The lands that are now the US would have likely been split three ways. Possibly more.
Of course, that's how these alternate history things always go.
Hell, you could even look at real history and say "well that would never have happened..."
But, it did.

But, it did.Very interesting parallels with north and south countries. In the film instead of Atlanta burning NYC and Boston are decimated. The CSA builds a wall between Canada and our borders. So much fascinating stuff, I hope you rent it and see what I mean. It has some weak moments but amazing turnabouts in what our history made us all.
The CSA takes Manifest Destiny to the extreme as well, but I won't spill too much more about it.
Prince_James 01-10-07, 12:49 AM Genji:
Yes, the United States would not have been united any more. All the Southern States and Texas would have not been part of the Union.
I say that relations would have probably normalized within two decades afterwards, not another war.
