It's become apparent that now is the time for me to leave sciforums. I'm not going to lie or try and save someone's feelings (frankly because the person will not be at all hurt by this). A short while before Ortho left the site my mindset changed and I ceased to be such an extravagently arrogant and insulting basterd. Not because I felt bad or because I felt I owed it to anyone else, but because I felt I owed it to myself. Being insulting and condescending was getting me no where with most debates and discussions, people were too busy trying to reply to my insults to ever think about accepting or even understanding my side. I figured that it was worth a shot to try being polite, well-mannered and overall more like the members here who I respect and admire; Q, Wet1, Goofyfish and others. I found quite instantly that people were considering my ideas more (be they right or wrong) and I was able to better voice my opinions. However, shorlty after with a member who's intellect and opinion have been a monsterous force to this board (for both great good and, occasionally, detrimental affects) decided to reply to my calm, emotionless posts with full insults and anger and, most of all, extremely condescending comments and an obvious lack of respect for myself. This doesn't hurt, it doesn't affect me emotionally except to make me slightly frustrated. I find it impossible to debate or discuss when Xev is calling me a "bigot", "pussy", "member of the herd", "sheep", "not worth (her) time". She has repeatadly ignored parts of my posts in order to try and make me look stupid. A good example of this is in the Catholic thread when she calmly points out that the pilgrams were not seeing the pope as an idol in the Biblical sense. My reply was "That's true. Good point." The very next post featured Xev yelling at me for being a bigot and pussy because I can't show that they see hte pope as an idol in the OT sense. She has chosen to do this in numerous threads and it effectively ruins a debate.

Now, there is little doubt Xev will choose to call me weak or a pussy or pathetic again for leaving sciforums because of her. However, I am leaving not because I've been scared away or hurt or annoyed. About a week ago I made a decision to try and stay away from any thread Xev posts in. She once said; "You're treading on my turf." In the course of that week Xev's "turf" as I saw it was General Philosophy, Religion and Ethics. I believed I could stick to Free Thoughts, Arts and World Politics without having to get annoyed at a thread. Then the Kirsten Dunst thread and the one on Musical Pedagogy came along and I was, with absolutely no emotion involved, made to apparently be a complete idiot, "sheep" and overly emotional. I pointed out a fact of medical pedagogy (a topic I happen to be quite engrosed in because my mother) and Xev answered back with "Hands Tyler a Hershey Bar and Titanic......feel better now?". Nothing actually truly bugged me there until she said fadingcaptain had no balls and replied in some kind of emotional manner when his reply, to the best I could see, was quite light-hearted. Xev may have something personal against me, but I don't think she has anything against fading.

Anyway, as I was saying. I now find myself stuck in Free Thoughts and World Politics if I ever feel like having a discussion on sciforums. Personally, I don't want to remember sciforums this way. I will continue to read sciforums and will probably end up replying again eventually, but to the minute Xev has never apologized (I believe she is against apologizing, but I may be wrong on this) and, more importantly, has never once stated that she acted wrongly. Like I said, this doesn't affect me emotionally at all. All it does is prove that she's not about to slow down and possibly doesn't even think she's done anything detrimental.

So, I would like to make a couple mentions before I leave.

Goofyfish, Wet1, Cris and Q; Thank you very kindly for hours of interesting reading and a very good attitude no matter what. You have been a model to me.

Polux V and Cactus Jack; Always interesting guys near my age, a great group to talk to about anything.

*strgrl*; Thanks for allowing me to meet my first blind patriot I ever truly liked!

Adam; Sharp-witted and quick you remained informative and intelligent, thank you kindly.

Asgaurd; Keep working buddy, you've got everyone at sciforums on your side and I will still be happy to talk to you on ICQ.

Xev; Thank you for making my initial stay at sciforums interesting, providing me with an opponent in philosophy, giving me extra sources and every discussion we use to have.

For anyone who wishes to talk to me, I am happy to talk with anyone from sciforums on ICQ (58851316) or by e-mail (Pavel_9@hotmail.com). Thanks for everything guys, but I am no longer allowed to be a valuable member here, so I'm gone.

That is what happens to women when they get worshipped, lauded, and praised.

A woman: "It doesn't matter if I am worth your time, all that matters is if YOU are worth my time."

This is a mindset of a powerful person. And should always be the mindset of a Don Juan.

But when acting towards friends, you don't act that way, this is where the "nice guy" philosophy fits in perfectly. You attract friends by being "nice" (not needy, clingy, desperate) not cocky or conceited.

Goodluck though. I was about to leave sciforums.com at some point because of the narrow-mindedness I encountered here

Tyler, don't you think your overreacting just a little...

Your one of the better posters here, I doubt anyone on this forum wants to see you leave, including Xev.

I think you may be taking sarcasm from Xev to literally(though I don't want to speak for her), sometimes people can get into a mood. Maybe you two should talk over your differences on ICQ or something.

I don't understand why you would leave over a silly thing like this, but if you do all I can say is take it easy and best wishes. It won't be the same bashing Canadians without you here...

I stood up to Xev for a long time, had her respect for quite some time and apparently lost it at some point. Probably through fault of my own, I do admitt. Anyway, in the last two weeks I have been close to completely unable to have a debate in any forum I enjoy without being yelled at and insulted. Frankly, it renders me useless in every interesting forum at this site beisdes World Politics which is quickly becoming nothing more than a skeptic forum and a place where people can bash Bush. I'm leaving because I've become useless at sciforums and I don't like that feeling. At one point I may have been one of the more valuable members on the site static, but it is certainly not true anymore.

"I think you may be taking sarcasm from Xev to literally(though I don't want to speak for her), sometimes people can get into a mood. Maybe you two should talk over your differences on ICQ or something."

The only thing I can gather from conversations with her is that either I am a complete ass towards her and a whinny little baby or that I am right. Either way, I am of detrimental affect to threads at sciforums. Hence - leaving!

"I don't understand why you would leave over a silly thing like this, but if you do all I can say is take it easy and best wishes. It won't be the same bashing Canadians without you here..."

It's not Xev bashing. Like I said, you're an extremely valuable member of this site. You just have a thing for insulting and yelling at me. I can't post in philosophy, ethics or religion without being instantly shot down and entering into a one-sided fight with you. I don't enjoy just being in Free Thoughts and World Politics so I'm leaving.

No no, thanks so much. I don't think I've felt this happy since Bebelina tried to have me banned.

Especially in the Darwinian sense: you either have it, or you don't.

Buy a vowel from the Salmon. It struggles mightily against gravity--both the on-rushing current and the plummeting waterfall--to reach its problematic, procreative destiny up at the headwaters.

Seems that once Nature introduces to self-awareness the quality of conciousness, surrender becomes a viable option.

    Natural selection.

Once again, I don't take it emotionally. I couldn't care less what she thinks of me anymore. I am just basically no longer a member in the boards that formerly interested me.

    A lesson for life

Whenever you are new to a place, it is your first impression that shows who you are, not the aftermath. Your first impression in the past was aggressive, so people acted defensivly even if you are being nice at present. And it is great to learn from your mistakes not run away from them. Everybody has mistakes and no one is or can become perfect.

    According to a saying:
"Be nicer to your enemies than you are to your friends"

    Tyler

I had this long sympathetic post that I was writing, but then it occurred to me that it would scare a psychotherapist.

    Scrap plan A.
By that reckoning, I should have been gone ... what, about two and half years ago? As you may have noticed, I'm prone to hammering issues with people. The latest spat I found interesting because in the past, people have used the personal attacks to open holes to the logical. Lately, the personal exchanges have been merely that, for personal satisfaction, it seems. But check the list: Truestory, Lori, Alderian, Brian, Pashley, KalvinB, Tony1, and even Dan1123 and BlondeCupid are among the names of people I've tangled with in seriously detrimental disagreements. That's probably one-half to one-third of the list, and that list excluding the number of atheists who caught my wrath during the last exchanges.

What to do, what to do?
Um, Tyler ... let's see ... how best to put it?

    Um ....

    Well ... no ...

Okay, try this: Dude, you're a stoner.

    When did being "allowed" matter?

What makes the person who seeks to ruin your Sciforums contribution any different than the people who seek to ruin your contributions to society because of what they will or will not allow?

Just know that whenever someone says, "I never said that," or some other lame excuse that it wouldn't matter that they're lying except that the hypocrisy of the issue becomes vital to their point. Just know that when someone has nothing but vitriol and sarcasm to offer, that other people are seeing this, too.

So what to do, what to do?

Recommendation, and yes, unsolicited: Smoke a bowl.

Seriously, of the soft-walkers around here I have a notoriously big stick.

So smoke a bowl and whip out the Green Monster. Hit hard, but don't let them hear you coming. Subtlety. Say it with a smile. Say it with that smarmy stoner grin that bugs the sober. Sing it with that stoner tone, that grin of the soul that comes with well-placed words and the knowledge of that placement. Remember, whether you charge head on and yell and wave your flag, you're not going to hit them any harder than if you creep up behind them and take a measured swing.

You don't have to shout, you don't have to wail. Chuckle and let 'em know you're here, and then show the pseudo-subtles what subtlety is. Show them the stoner walk.

It's like this song I randomly posted the lyrics to in Free Thoughts today: Oh I care not nothing for your goosefeather crotch, and I know you by the feathers in your you-know ....

In other words, how to "sink to a level" (so to speak) without "sinking to the level"?

Sometimes I pull it off. Sometimes I don't. So let that be a lesson to ya.

Maybe someday we'll have a topic on posting theory. That could prove to be interesting.

"By that reckoning, I should have been gone ... what, about two and half years ago?"

Your choice. I don't enjoy being a downside to the site.

"Okay, try this: Dude, you're a stoner."

Ironically enough I've given up pot. Anyway, point well taken!

    That's true.

TO ALL AND MODS IN SPECIFIC

Xev believes this thread is intended to get her banned. IT IS NOT. I have stated I have become a detrimental user on sciforums, but more importantly I have become a detrimental user to Xev's quality of posting. I have caused threads to become personal squabbles and taken them off topic and pretyt much destroyed them because of Xev getting on me hard. Every thread I stay out of she is a force in a positive way. Xev has my respect and the reason I chose not to post in a thread she was in was so that she could be so useful. Consequently, I can't be involved in any of the forums on this site that I enjoy. Everyone understand?

so xevs bad side comes out wherever u post

therefore we miss out on xevs good side
therefore we not only miss something good, but we hav 2 put up with xevs bad side
therefore u would be doing sciforum a favor by leaving

but who r u 2 say that? it jus seems like your deciding 4 everybody.
    y not do a poll?

A: would you rather deal with xevy whenever tyler posts?

B: would you rather get rid of tyler thereby saving the threads?

i dont think u have the right 2 make the kind of decision ur making.
i think it shold b up 2 the forumers 2 vote u out see.

    yup. mmhmm.

    Tyler,

Don't assume that silence gives consent.

There are many people here who will take you at face value. They will judge you by what you post, not by how somebody else insults you.

The same applies to Xev, of course.

    Tyler,

Stay and fight. Seek alternative approaches. Welcome and enjoy the challenge.

Optional lecture. Feel free to discard.

One of the greatest pleasures in life is facing and overcoming perceived insurmountable obstacles. Some people approach them through terror, stress, anger, fear, frustration, or running away, while others welcome them as challenges to be enjoyed. They will occur and cannot be avoided. If you face them then with each obstacle removed there comes a sense of achievement, confidence, and strength. Subsequent obstacles become easier until it becomes difficult to recognize any obstacle.

I think you are a very valuable member here and you should not leave. Take a short break and then return when you have rested. There is no need to seemingly burn your bridges by saying goodbye.

But whatever you choose to do, have fun.

    Best regards
    Cris

Sorry Cris, James; it's come down to something of a Xev-or-Tyler-goes situation and Xev has both been her longer and is of more value to the forums which are in debate. This is not an Xev-bashing thread, keep in mind. However, she believes I would consider it a victory if she left sciforums. As something I would never believ Xev to accuse me of she has decided that basically everything I have ever said has been a lie and therefore I want her to leave. Contrary to how many times I say otherwise.

    So - I'm gone.

Edit to add; Cris, I did read your lecture and I realize you are right.
