After visiting a friend the other day and noticing I didn't have enough petrol to get home, I swung by a Tesco filling station.

Being the skint bastard I am, I put £2.50 worth of petrol in, leaving me with enough money for some smokes.

I went into the shop, walked up to the counter, "number six, please".

"Two pounds fifty. Can I ask you, sir, did you put the petrol in a can or in the car?"

    "Umm, in the car. Why?"

"We've got to ask now", and he points at a poster explaining.

I skimmed the poster and didn't quite take it in, but the rough gist was something like -
"Due to the recent terrorist attack at Glasgow airport, we now have to ask customers if they are filling cannisters of petrol."

Has anyone else had this in a petrol station?

I'm wondering what the point is. You could lie and say you filled a tank, requiring a little more police work when it comes to figuring out where you got your cans of petrol.

"Oh, sorry. You've got me fair and square, mate. Yes, I am a terrorist."

"Cans, mate. 27 of 'em. Don't suppose you've got any camping gas and some bungee cord? Oh, and a box of matches please."

LOL, that is just so sad. Funny but sad that they think it would actually work.

They should have video surveillance out there. It's cheap and very effective. The people I'd like to smack at the gas stations are the ones on their cell phones, smoking, or getting in and out of their cars while pumping gas into them. All those things can and have caused explosions here.

It's like those questions at border checkpoints though - "do you have any guns or explosives in the car"
"Yes..... no wait....." Seriously how many people does that catch out?
Airports are the worst though, "did you pack the bags yourself?"
"Funny you should ask; you see the gentleman over there with the beard.....Just showed up this morning; hey I hear you're going on holiday mind if i pack your bags? Well you seem nice enough sure why not....."

"Could anyone else have tampered with your bags in any way?"
"Well it's a bit hard to drive and look back at your bags at the same time."

They even make you take tweezers out of hand luggage at airports now; seriously if you can take over a plane with tweezers you deserve the plane you obviously want it a hell of a lot more than they do.

R.I.P. Common sense - Left us far too soon.

Yes, modern day Britain uses security cameras.

Amazingly, we can select to pay inside or at the pump via a colour-screen input on the pump itself.

You want somebody inside to check that everyone is filling up what they say they are?

I read a story that China is forcing users to use their real names when posting messages.

    I think it's a good idea!

I mean, even with all the freedoms of speech we have, how many of us would stand on a soapbox on a downtown corner and say the things that we say on the Internet in secrecy?

Would people say the things that are said on this site if they're real names and IP addresses were visible to everyone? Hmmm?

Assume the gas stations already know whether you're filling a tank or a can. If you lie and say you filled your tank, they know you're a terrorist. It worked on you guys, and it'll work on other people too. Simple and effective.
