View Full Version : Bush walks into a restaurant
Syzygys 02-01-07, 01:50 PM Hey Max, this is a real life poll on the popularity of the prez:
"But on Tuesday, the surprise was on Bush. In town to deliver remarks on the economy, the president walked into the diner, where he was greeted with what can only be described as a sedate reception. No one rushed to shake his hand. There were no audible gasps or yelps of excitement that usually accompany visits like this. Last summer, a woman nearly fainted when Bush made an unscheduled visit for some donut holes at the legendary Lou Mitchell’s Restaurant in Chicago. In Peoria this week, many patrons found their pancakes more interesting. Except for the click of news cameras and the clang of a dish from the kitchen, the quiet was deafening."

"Another woman, eyeing Bush and his entourage, sighed heavily and went back to her paper. She was reading the obituaries. “Sorry to interrupt your breakfast,” a White House aide told her. “No problem,” she huffed, in a not-so-friendly way. “Life goes on, I guess.”"
Nikelodeon 02-01-07, 01:54 PM Maybe they thought it was a look-alike.
The Devil Inside 02-02-07, 10:07 AM heh...i lived in peoria when i joined sciforums waaay back when..
G. F. Schleebenhorst 02-02-07, 11:19 AM Maybe she was sighing because she forgot her gun.
Athelwulf 02-02-07, 12:01 PM Hm. I wonder what I would've done in that situation. I would have to decide between not disturbing the silence, as it speaks volumes, or walking up to him and calmly saying that his war is deplorable.
Of course, if I do the latter, there's a possibility I'll get arrested for assault (http://www.progressive.org/mag_mc100406?cheney).
Decisions, decisions.
A lame duck President is not generally popular, almost by definition.
Freed from the need to act as if percieved to be liked, a good lame duck President can do pretty much whatever he pleases -- because most folks will bitch about whatever a President does in such a circumstance.
Frankly, I would find that to be a very liberating moment in my term.
And I'd happily give everyone some real reasons why disliking me would be exactly the mindset I want them to have. ;)
G. F. Schleebenhorst 02-05-07, 12:58 PM All that pretentious language and you can't even spell "perceive", Mr. G?
Tsk tsk.
spidergoat 02-05-07, 01:53 PM Ha ha, yeah, he's a real maverick, a regular Lone Ranger.
Syzygys 02-05-07, 06:40 PM A certain Prez called Bill, even when he was in his lame duck term, still had like a 70% approval rating...
But of course he didn't start illegal wars, at least not that one where lots of US soldiers died...
Lord Hillyer 02-06-07, 06:23 PM Bush ruins my appetite. He has no business going into restaurants.

Bill Clinton did not lead, he followed the polls. He did what was popular, so he was popular. Over the long term, his presidency will be seen as inconsequential. Bush did what he thought was right, he is a leader. Ultimately, he will be seen as the better president, by far.
Nikelodeon 02-09-07, 04:28 PM Ultimately, he will be seen as the better president, by far.
By who?
spidergoat 02-09-07, 04:31 PM If it weren't so tragic, that would almost be funny.
Bruce Beal 02-09-07, 04:54 PM You obviously do not know what it would be like to be the president, I have no blame for any one man. And little information to go on also.
Bush was Groomed to be the president one day, by his Father after his father got into the CIA. He has no charisma, is dyslexic, doesn't give a Poot about You, nobody, and knows that you know this and doesn't care.
spidergoat 02-09-07, 05:55 PM Type "failure" into the google search engine. Notice who's name is the first to come up. There is no better expression of Bush's legacy.
spidergoat 02-09-07, 06:34 PM Yes, it's hard for one person to mess up the nation that badly. He had help.
Syzygys 02-09-07, 06:39 PM ... and the idiots are marching in.
Bill Clinton did not lead, he followed the polls.
Maybe that's how it should be done. After all the president is the employee of the country, and not the country is the slave of the president.
Bush did what he thought was right, he is a leader.
Bush doesn't do anything without someone is telling him what to do....
Ultimately, he will be seen as the better president, by far.
At this point I seriously have to consider putting you on Ignore...There is a limit to stupidity what I can stand....
Maybe she was sighing because she forgot her gun.
I agree...thats the case.
All that pretentious language and you can't even spell "perceive", Mr. G?
Tsk tsk.
Like I said, G. F. Rocket Scientist...
And I'd happily give everyone some real reasons why disliking me would be exactly the mindset I want them to have.
The pooper-scooper goes well with your own pretentsions, eh?
"Left only to pick at his orphaned spore..." :D
Ha ha, yeah, he's a real maverick, a regular Lone Ranger.
Spectators aren't players.
You hang out with your self-reinforcing litter mates. Nothing much maverick about that preference.
I dare to enter the lair of the philosophically inbred not of my own kind.
My kind doesn't need me. Your kind doesn't need me, either.
But you do.
Kendall 02-11-07, 01:07 AM I was thinking the thread was rude, not being hateful

Bravo, old chap! Jolly good show, wot wot.
They ought to give you a ribbon or a medal or sommat!

RUDE????
WTF is rude about describing a historical situation when the king visits the common man?
Same old back and forth talk that goes no where. Time well tell if the president is doing what needs to be done. We must remember, he has information that we do not - and not all of it is like the WMD...intelligence mistake (or what we call a mistake, based upon what the public knows at this time). Present popularity is not always a measure of what is right.

Excuse me? You don't need to wait 30 years for every decission just to see if it was right or not...
We must remember, he has information that we do not
Which was this: Oil is peaking, Iraq has oil, thus....
Personally, Americans got what they voted for. OK, I take that back, they didn't vote for this chimp...
spidergoat 02-12-07, 07:15 PM Yes, Mr. G, you can be amusing. I only come here for the freaks.

Let me tell you. Every single time Mr Bush watches those 911 tapes, he is reminded of why he is in Iraq, his motive is reinforced. Every single time that man sits down and that clip comes on, he thinks he is doing fairly well. I saw the 911 tapes again and I had a feeling. At times its difficult to accuse Americans and Mr Bush for the situation in Afghanistan and Iraq. The poor guy is just acting on what comes naturally to him, I wonder how the woman in the cafe would feel if she was a direct victim of 911.
Syzygys 02-12-07, 08:56 PM Let me tell you.
No, please don't because you are an idiot, with this 911-Iraq connection.
Why don't you try Iraq-oil??? You would have a better chance....
Giambattista 02-14-07, 05:23 AM Maybe she was sighing because she forgot her gun.
That made me giggle. :p
just want to share this with you

Okay. There you go. You've hit upon two things we actually share in common.
