PRESIDENT George W. Bush told thousands of cheering soldiers in his home state of Texas yesterday that a war against Iraq would be one of liberation, not conquest.

Wwwwrong answer!! Several billion dollars richer! (did you forget about OIL?) We don't need to go to war with Iraq to get their oil. Iraq already wants to sell us oil at a bargain price. If we wanted it, all we would need to do would be to lift the embargo. This won't be a war about oil. It's not as if the oil will be any cheaper after the war. There's no way that we could make a profit off this, since we'll probably use/lose billions of dollars worth of equipment getting the Baathists out of power.

did anyone ASK if they WANT to be liberated???? Well, last time they got the chance (right after the last war) half the country revolted. I doubt that sentiments have changed much.
The last time they were asked, 100% voted for Hussein. Not one dissenter... survived.
the cost of the war is supposed to be under a hundred billion. that would buy a LOT of oil! then we'll have to rebuild the country, we'll never break even. I wish our money that we give all those ratholes over there would stay home, so out taxes would go down, and we could realize some dreams in the U.S. We get no good credits for this anyway. always gonna be assholes who look at us like we are dirt.

EvelinaAnville 01-05-03, 10:09 PM Slim,

The cost of wars fought to get oil is never figured into the price we pay at the pump. War fought for oil is not about how much the public pays for the oil, but how much money the oil companies will make. American public subsidizes the "scouting" (i.e., making war) for oil for the oil companies. WE, the American public, are not buying the oil with our taxes; we are helping the oil companies to a cheaper source of oil with our taxes. It is not about the taxpaying public breaking even; it is about helping the oil companies like Halliburton (a company which goes in a prepares oil rich areas for drilling--lots of stock owned by our invisible VP, Cheney) to turn a profit at our expense.
0200572 01-05-03, 10:44 PM Evelina,
Thanks to those like you we still have hope. You people (americans) have to go and fight against this war; you have power to prevent it. Just be active, pleeeeease

We don't need to go to war with Iraq to get their oil. They want to sell it to us already; it's pretty much all that they have to sell. The new government of Iraq (whatever it may be) isn't going to sell it to us any cheaper. If we were only interested in getting the oil, we would just by it from them and skip the war bit.
Asguard 01-06-03, 12:42 AM actully they want to sell it to the russians
That's only because at the moment the Russians are the only ones who might have the guts to go against the US embargo.
Nasor - The puppet state formerly known as Iraq is going to give the USA the oil in lieu of compensation for the service the USA provided in ousting Hussein. EvelinaAnville has it right methinks. To her comments above I add that Bush’s blind trust will swell with oil profits as well. That’s his family business. Also the war industry and Wall Street is being paid off for funding Bush’s campaign.
I think you missed my point, the American Taxpayer loses on this.. the cost of war and rebuilding the country would "Fix" a lot of Problems at home, and yeah, the oil companys are the winners.
