So we are supposed to pay the astronomical cost of rebuilding the Gulf Coast by cutting other programs? This is most insane thing I have ever heard of. His government is already bankrupt- monetarily, diplomatically, and morally. As if this wasn't enough, he is using Katrina as an excuse to gut labor laws with regard to minimum wage. When will we say enough is enough?

Lest you forget, all of this must be approved by congress ......so don't go blaming President Bush for it!! Just because he submits his proposal is one thing, but approving it will be by congress ....so if it's approved, please blame congress!

As to the Katrina rebuilding, why didn't we rebuild Pensacola last year? Or the areas of south Florida the year before? Or the areas that were devastated by the mudslides in Californication last year? Or the tornado ravaged area of Oklahoma City last year? Or the ......well, you get the picture, right?

The federal government has no place in such endeavors ....rebuilding the port, perhaps, the city ....no fuckin' way!! That ain't the job of the federal government.

Well, I have to admit ....I almost swallowed my fuckin' teeth when he made that "commitment". However, I also realized that the congress would have to approve any such vast commitment ....and they ain't gonna' be able to do it. There's just going to be too much pressure if they do ....what about the next storms, earthquakes, tornadoes, rainstorms, mudslides, etc., etc.

The federal government just can't make that commitment and remain intact!! ....regardless of the sympathy and compassion and whatever-the-fuck-else-we're-gonna'-call-it.

Baron, congress is republican and therefore it's his bitch. Republicans are not like democrats and rarely stray away from "their president".

Mikasa11:"congress is republican and therefore it's his bitch. Republicans are not like democrats and rarely stray away from "their president". "

Since the President and the members of Congress are elected on seperate ballots, and since the majority of voters in the US have put the Republicans in power to act on their ideals, have you ever considered that YOUR views do not express what the majority of people want? Of course not, you are a liberal and think only you know what is good for everyone else. Your statement "I know i'm right and so does any reasonably intelligent person... " wonderfully expresses this.
