Wow.

So I wonder how much longer will the US insist on maintaining a safe haven for bigots in the military.

New Course by Royal Navy: A Campaign to Recruit Gays
By SARAH LYALL

Published: February 22, 2005

LONDON, Feb. 21 - Five years after Britain lifted its ban on gays in the military, the Royal Navy has begun actively encouraging them to enlist and has pledged to make life easier when they do.

The navy announced Monday that it had asked Stonewall, a group that lobbies for gay rights, to help it develop better strategies for recruiting and retaining gay men and lesbians. It said, too, that one strategy may be to advertise for recruits in gay magazines and newspapers.
[...]
But after the court ruling, it had no choice but to reverse its policy. Beginning in 2000, the military said gays would no longer be prohibited from serving. It also stopped monitoring its recruits' sex lives, saying that sexuality, as long as it did not intrude into the workplace, should not be an issue one way or another.

Recently, gay men and women in the British services have lived and fought in Iraq alongside heterosexuals without problems, according to military officials.

Lets face it a career in the military is no longer a desirable option , and the military is feeling the pinch recruiting as no one wants to go in , this says they will take anyone .

Homosexual sodomy has long been a part of maritime tradition. The British navy is simply coming out of the closet on this fact. Your 'they will take anyone' jab is horrendously stupid, as homosexuals are still able bodied in every way. If they were going to 'take anyone' why not advertise for hemophiliacs or paraplegics?

In the navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the navy
Come on now, fall in 'n' make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
Can't you see we need a hand
In the navy
Come on, protect the motherland
In the navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the navy
Come on people, and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)

They're signing up new seamen fast!

(For those who remember the village people)

Gays have the right to be shot at, but not the right to marry.
Good enough to serve their country, but not good enough to be given equal rights regarding marriage.

Does anyone else here find this despicable?

This is curious. Few days ago I posted excerpts from
an article in which I provided attribution as was done above. Publication, author and a link to the full article.

Got an email saying my post was pulled because of "plagiarism".

Couldn't reply as email replies were blocked. I'm fine with site owners allowing whatever they want or don't want to be on a site. Appreciate the right to post and I'll follow whatever rules there are.

But it is impossible to follow them if one doesn't know what they are.

Claiming what I posted and what was posted above is plagiarism is a new definition of the word to me. And to everyone else in the world.

Many gays have married: Oscar Wilde, Harold Nicholson, his wife Victoria Sackville-West, her lover Virginia Woolf, J M Keynes and W H Auden are famous recent examples.
What you object to is the fact that men cannot marry men or women women [surely it is discriminatory to say that only gay men may marry each other?). The solution is to abolish marriage exzcept as a religious ceremony, leaving it with no legal status whatsoever.

Seems gays are actually designed for the militairy.
Like thats the adaptation our species made to suit our new complex social structure, popping out gays to make armies like they're soldier ants.
If only they were a bit tougher, but I think that's mostly conditioning.

The navy probably does alot of floating around doing nothing, wishing there were some women around. If they were all gays they could just have mass man-trains running through the boat, ending with a kate winslet impersonating drag queen up the front.
They'd enjoy the orgies so much that the interuption from enemies would anger them and they'd be quite efficient in working towards a victory, trying to get back to making man-love asap.

Also, if all troops were gays, liberals couldn't complain about wars so much because they wouldn't want to insult the gays.
Yeah, you see what I'm getting at?

mountainhare - hear hear!

When being harried about Maritime tradition, Churchill said: I shall give you three maritime traditions: Limes, sodomy, and the lash. Good day, gentlemen.

Read "Jarhead" - it's about the US Marines, but it does feature homosexual activity in the military.

I think the full version of Churchill's remark was "The traditions of the Royal Navy? Rum, sodomy and the lash below decks, while the officers suppose they're gentlemen because they drink pink gin."
On the other hand, Jackie Fisher wanted to name a dreadnought HMS Cromwell. King George V forbade it and Fisher replied that Cromwell had done more for the navy and the sovereignty of the seas than any king since Alfred the Great.

I read that one too . . . i think in the Last Lion Vol II? Anyway, isn't it about time that we all got over homosexuality and went on with our lives? Let's put it this way - I'm not joining up. If a homosexual wants to, that's great.
