Do you think a boycott will be successful?

and have you heard of the recent attempts by RIAA to collect money from used CD sales by other people?

I mean, I thought it was a basic economical principle that you can't profit from a good AFTER you've already sold it???

I've been boycotting the RIAA for years. I wont even allow people to buy me music as gifts. I take it back. The RIAA will make 0 money from me. I do my merchandise from band's websites to make sure they're making money. I havent done it since I don't usually get a full album of songs. But If I do then I'll probably buy a shirt costing 20 or 25 bucks and just send 30 or 35 bucks instead. Kind of a donation to the band. I try to go through a band's website if possible since that's probably the most direct route.

    Stop buying mainstream music.

    Get classical music instead.

Go to used cd stores. They already got their money. There are many fine programs out there to help you process those that might need help. Including a device to remove scratches from cds.

Two record labels have been accused of price fixing for the 3 tenors. (classical music)

I hate to break it to you guys, but this boycott won't likely work. If I had the slightest feeling that it would, I'd join in and make as much a difference as I could. Thing is, most people simply aren't into it to enough to make any kind of a difference. So the passivity of it all becomes wasted energy.

Instead we should focus our powers on collectively attacking them. That means getting the newer (and safer) forms of filesharing, fighting them in the courtroom through the anti-RIAA organizations, while still buying just as many CD's as you would have before they started up in late June. Because let's face it.... with all the wimps rolling over and buying 3x more CD's, your twenty dollars won't make much of a difference.

    Hate to be a pessimist...
