That is an awesome price for a laptop with a 15.6 inch screen, darksidz.

It's an interesting sensation, that happy feeling of positive reinforcement when we achieve a goal.

When one is able to assess their priorities and break them down into tangible steps, one receives these little 'happy hits' on a regular basis.

That is the importance of setting small, incremental goals. They are of great value in keeping us motivated and allow us to observe that we are making progress in the direction of our choice.

Sometimes people set goals without defining how to reach them and then become discouraged when they don't understand why results don't just 'happen'.

It is up to us to define our own goals and then take steps to attain them.

Congrats on your new laptop! The longest journey begins with the first step and you are now in motion....

Or do an on-line search to find the operating systems requirements for Doom 3 and/or Crysis and compare them with what your laptop is running....

As I recall from chatting up the tech salesman, gaming requires greater memory, processor speed and excellent graphics to get optimum results. I'm sure that some of the gamers at this forum will be able to tell you off the top of their head if your system will run those games.

I'd suggest making sure if you are playing high end games in a Cafe or at home, sit under the aircon when on a laptop, they tend to have heat problems due to the lack of space.

Laptops are usually not great for gaming as they use embedded Chipset's which usually have the drivers scaled down for performance (energy saving), most high end games will read "Unsupported" however it doesn't mean the won't run, it just means they might lag, or cause freezes etc. (Even the alienware model isn't completely free of these problems and they are spec'd higher than other laptops on the market)

Should run Doom3 okay , and probably Crysis although probably only on medium settings, and perhaps at only 25-30 fps.

I did find this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKmJDspI0r4 and there seem to be many other vids demonstrating the ability of the card, so just see if the other specs they're using match yours... and enjoy

If using coffee shop wifi, use https all the time. It's imperative.
if you don't anyone else on the same wifi has access to all your cookies.

For the price it's very nice. You have a slow and small hard drive, which may hold your gaming to some secondary choices. If you have any friends that have a wireless router, they work very well. I had a desktop and a girlfriend with a laptop and I installed a wireless router and her download speed was just as good as mine was, plus the security was better. Another thing if you live in an apartment and one of your neighbors has a wireless router that they were to lazy to configure, you will be able to work on their band width as long as they leave it powered up. Be very careful of heat problems ( not good to leave in lap very long), best if you have a little stand that allows air flow to the bottom of the laptop while you are using at home.

That's only if they captured the session data. The real concern is the occasional person that might run a packet sniffer on net traffic, since they can obtain and reconstruct packets at their leisure. If you are using just plain HTTP then there is no encrypted layer, which means any information passed over the network is in a plain format. Most of the time that means plaintext.

Passwords for many different sites over http can potentially appear in plain text, this site for instance uses a Javascript to convert a plaintext password to a Digested Hash so the actually plaintext is never sent over the internet, however this doesn't mean the Hash can't be captured or if a rogue hacker/group managed to upload a replacement script (or Packet rewrite) they could actually force people to join a site with a preset hash, or force them to use a preset hash when they attempt to change their password from not being able to login with a preset hash. (After all if you fail accessing through your password, you usually think "Oh, I must have it wrong, or it must be typed wrong, oh well I'll change it". In fact it's a posed a good practice to change your password at least once everything three months. Through this exploit actually changing the password more often would put you at greater risk than not changing it.)

Of course it's all conceptual zero-day.

I ordered a 500GB drive at 7200 RPM. This thing played Doom 3 fine and the HDMI output to an HDTV is a real fun thing too :L It played Bioshock fine too, Bioshock 2, so it's not really bad for what I paid. It plays F.E.A.R. fine also of course not maxed but it works

I have a 500 GB external HD. It's really handy. I use it as backup storage device.

Doesn't getting a bigger faster hard drive defeat the purpose of the good price you got for that lap top?

I've had nothing but problems with external hard drives. Every time I lose power I get these messages telling me I need to format.
