The former alcoholic womanizing president of Russia : Boris "the bear" Yeltsin died today due to heart failure ............

Still it must be remembered, that he was a president in a time of turmoil in Russia , Gorbachev had just reformed politics .....corruption and economic crisis had to be dealt with ....not always successful.....Chechnya ........alcohol.............heart operation ..............poor guy .......

Rest in peace old warrior ..... I will still remember you stopping the reactionary forces trying to take the parliament building in Moscow .....delivering a speech while standing on a tank in front of the " white house " of Moscow ....

Boris Yeltsin's policies ultimately doomed Russia, but I don't blame the guy for trying. He had the right perception, but the execution of what he wanted totally failed Russia.

He tried to implement democracy before there was a set free market capitalist economic plan in Russia. As we can see, it didn't work at all. It's one reason why I think China, in the long run, will be a democratic country and a strong one at that, because China has implemented it's capitalist economic plan first (democracy will gradually come too, as capitalism breeds individualism, which leads to more democracy). For a democracy to function, you need a stable capitalist economy functioning first.

i have never seen the connection between capitalism and democracy. It seems that the most capitalist countries are least democratic.

The connection is simple: capitalism delivers the best democracy money can buy.

Maybe, if that wouldn't be a complete lie.

Are you suggesting that money, derived from capitalism, cannot be used to buy politicians, government officials, judges, etc.
[You may notice I put democracy in italics.]

You are just too suave for me. I conceit my democratic defeat.

He was a drunken, sex addled buffoon that enjoyed about 40 minutes of fame as he kicked the USSR into a 3rd World Russia half it's former size. He destroyed a superpower and died alone a very unpopular man. Rot in hell Boris, you were forgotten long ago.

What's wrong with drinking and having sex?Looking like Yeltsin?! Destroying a great nation?! Unleashing the capitalist mafia in Russia?! Turning a superpower into a big Mexico?! Picture a naked Boris with his babushka, swilling vodka. What's wrong with that?! Oh Dear

Turning a superpower into a big Mexico?!

Face it, the whole "rotten edifice" had one foot in the grave for 2 decades by then.

Picture a naked Boris with his babushka, swilling vodka.
