View Full Version : Bored? Read my college resume
Search & Destroy 01-25-07, 07:16 PM http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dxwmfs2_1d2rcgs&revision=_published
Yup, I'm finally applying to college.
What do you think of the resume? Good enough to counter a 2.5 GPA? :p
Thanks
Damn! You have bragging rights that's for sure. Sexy too! I'm impressed all the way around.
phonetic 01-25-07, 07:30 PM Looks good. I like the bit about risk assessment in climbing. You should fly it.
What course are you going for?
Fill that shit out better. It's awefully vague.

madanthonywayne 01-26-07, 12:06 AM Are you expected to provide a resume as part of your college application now?

Oh man, you've got kids, huh.
In ten years, you'll see what it's all about (unless there's a huge turnaround).
For the mid and upper echelon colleges, they want 1 general standardized test (SAT or ACT), plus several specialized standardized tests (SAT IIs, ACT, AP scores).
They'll also want an essay or two, and perhaps a piece of graded work.
They want to see a high GPA and rigorous classes; like APs.
They want to see involvement in extracurricular activities– serious involvment. Submissions of art portfolios, play videos for sports, tapes of musical performance, as well as copies of awards are commonly submitted material.
They'll ask you to list job experience, the time spent on extracurriculars, as well as any achievements you've made. Newspaper clippings, certificates, etc.
Here's the commonapp, which the vast majority of colleges accept:

Search & Destroy 01-26-07, 08:45 AM draqon, like what Roman said, the resume was only part of the application
I also had about 8 short essays, and two longer ones, as well as the normal name / age / GPA.
That's it though, SAT / ACT were optional. I decided not to submit my scores because I'm a tad lazy
Genji,
i hope you're a girl ;)

No idea
Maybe a science. Optimally something that will take me all over the place and overseas, not a desk job.
Suggestions?
NOOOOOOO!:eek:Ohhh now there's nuthin wrong witha little Manlove now-n-then.
Search & Destroy 01-26-07, 06:31 PM I hang out with a few homos. I'm not ok flirting though. As irresistible as it may be to you, I prefer a more passive relationship. Manlove still gives me the willies now-n-then when I get involved.

disregarding the newly discovered homosexual,
Does anyone have any helpful critiques on my resume? Advice would be helpful. Aren't there guidance counselors or directors of admission that visit this site?

Oh. I didn't know picking your course was seperate to applying. Things are different here I guess.
Geology or Earth Science could take you abroad quite easily - oil, diamonds, minerals, certain construction scenarios I'd imagine.
Search & Destroy 01-26-07, 07:13 PM I really like animals, and being in nature. Keeping travel in mind, can you think of any subjects that could make that work?
phonetic 01-26-07, 08:06 PM Zoology sounds pretty obvious, although I'm sure you can specialise in certain fields of zoology. You could work in safari parks, game reserves, zoo's, animal rehabilitation places or whatever.
You could be a veterinary surgeon and if you put your all in, made contacts and studied in the right place, you could learn how to deal with exotic animals. You'd get employed in the places I mentioned before, I'd have thought.
If you'd like to fly a plane, you could be a bush-vet in Australia, parts of Africa, etc. It all depends what you put in, your financial situation and what passport you have.
I hear becoming a vet is more difficult than becoming a doctor.
A job as a professor of biology, ecology, or the like, could let you travel around and stuff. Professors get their summers off, have access to grants, and grad students. Doesn't pay well, though.
phonetic 01-27-07, 06:01 PM There's always drug trafficking. All expenses paid trips to exotic countries and the chance to meet some police dogs.
