Everyone that I've talked to hated Borat. They think that he is disgusting and feel offended by thet movie. But they seem to miss the whole point of the movie....

Why Borat? What's the real message behind the movie? Well, the movie start with Borat in his home country. It gives you a small synopse of his culture. Then, when Borat goes to America, it shows how the two cultures clashes.

Why Borat is not evil? Well, because it shows us why there is war and hatred between people. When two cultures clash, they missunderstand each other and they fight. That's the whole point of the movie. Borat is an innocent person. He doesn't mean to be mean to jews. It's his past experiences, or his ancestors' past experiences that categorized the jews into the "evil" category. This is specially noted when he goes to the bed and breakfast owned by jews. He thinks that the jews are planning to kill him. But they are actually really nice people. The message there is that the jews are not evil, and that his community probably generalized a few jews.

People may find offensive some of what was said and done. Like that jew parade or what it said about women. But, really, those things are actually ridicularizations. They ridicularize racism and missunderstanding. He paints a really ridiculous picture of what racism stands for. How ridiculous is that jew parade? Or when in the end, they turn into christians and put someone up a cross? Hello-o! He's making fun of racist people.

It's brilliant satire. I guess some people didn't get it and should go back to watching "Survivor".

M*W: Sacha Baron Cohen is a comedic genius! Yes, I found the movie offensive, because that's the way it was intended to be. Borat wasn't just making fun of the Jews, he was making fun of the people who were making fun of the Jews. There's a difference. I have Jewish friends who loved it. It's kinda hard to offend them with a movie like this when they believe how offensive to their culture The Holocaust was.

Borat makes fun of himself. I remember the traffic jam scene where he's yelling out the window at other drivers and cussing at them. He ends up screaming at the other driver, "You f*cked my mother!!"

Borat/Ali G is very good comedian. His punch lines are great. The whole movie was funny.

    Obviously.

You know that he based the character on a Russian he met?

Kazakhstan isn't very well known though. Not many people know a great deal about it, so it was a better country to use for his purposes.

I haven't heard anything negative about Borat the movie, quite the opposite. I'm glad I didn't see it at the theater though, some tough viewing now & then but it's ambush satire! I love it. I do like his Ali G character better. So sexy.

    You found it offensive?

It was like nothing to me, I'm always watching that sort of comedy. Me and my mates are always doing the same thing, taking the piss out of eachother, cussing each others cultures, religion etc.

But its all friendly, we never take offence.

The problem with that is sometimes I make inappropriate jokes to people that aren't used to that sort of stuff (sad bastards), the fact that it offends them can make it funnier though. You have to learn to laugh 'in your head'.

I'm with you there. I've narrowly escaped a few fights because of that.

The worst was when I was telling some guy at a pub that he couldn't sprawl across the stairs and he needed to get a grip of himself. I sat him up and gave him a ciggie. Talked to him a little bit and then his friends come over. I'm instantly accused of being a faggot. Apparently I'm trying to get this semi-unconscious greasy fuck home with me to take advantage and bugger him one. Yeah right. Anyway, I gave it some limp wrist and "how about me and you meet in the toilet, big boy". The guys friend was seriously unimpressed and had to be restrained. I attempted to grab his arse whilst making my escape.

The funniest time I've seen that happen was when my friend was telling a joke. Calling catholics Fenions is a seriously bad idea anywhere in Scotland, but he was telling a joke and he said it. The second the word was out his mouth this guy smacked him in the face. Priceless.

lol. Its always a laugh going over stuff like that.

I remember this one time, a teacher in school (who was Scottish) pointed towards another teacher and asked 'Who's that guy over there', now with a Scottish accent that sounds like 'Who's that gay over there' (you know what its like

). Now the teacher that he pointed to was actually quite camp. That was fucking priceless. It was hard to not laugh.

And talking of drunks and fights.

I was out with a mate one night when some drunk prick just collapsed in front of us. He had hurt his head and there was some blood. Some woman called the ambulance and we thought we might as well wait until they come. Now the ambulance lot take their time when they hear about pissheads. So me and my mate are waiting, when people start staring at us. And then I thought shit, we're Asian, how fucking bad must this look right now, we were dressed like hitmen, with some prick lying at our feet bleeding. These 3 big guys come up to us and say what the fuck happened? quite aggressive and that, me and my mate thought we were about to get our arses kicked, but then the ambulance arrived.

    Crazy.

M*W: I wasn't offended personally, but I found it to be offensive to a lot of people, in fact, everyone in the movie and what they represented! Like the college boys in the RV. They made a fool of themselves did they not? Like the formal dinner at the socialite's home. Those people were bigoted obviously. Everyone in the movie represented a different segment of our American culture. Their biases and prejudices made the movie funny. It didn't offend me, but I can see how it was offensive to some. I've never laughed so hard, but then, it's always funny when we laugh at ourselves. Borat made fun of himself and his movie culture. The others who were filmed unknowingly were just themselves, but that was the funny part.
