View Full Version : Book suggestions? wes 02-28-04, 04:21 AM Ive recently gotten intrested into Astronomy, Exobiology and Cosmology and was wondering what are some good books on the said subject? If you have any online material to share please do as well. Thank you for your time. Calculusaurus 03-01-04, 07:05 AM Cosmos by Carl Sagan is an easy-to-read classic. It's not up to date, per say, but the book is well worth the read. Lonely Planets by David Greenspoon is my favorite exobiology book. The only other book I've read on cosmology was Before the Beginning by Martine Reese; it was a bit difficult to read, so I'd suggest another starting point. Starthane Xyzth 03-04-04, 04:48 PM There's always Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time, which details a lot of the underpinnings of modern cosmology. If you want a good theoretical grounding in astronomy and cosmology, it's worth investing in Universe, by Roger A. Freedman & Willian J. Kaufmann, which is a standard undergraduate textbook (with lots of illustrations!) For beautiful pictures and detailed star charts, try Patrick Moore's Atlas of the Universe. Neurocomp2003 03-04-04, 10:04 PM mathematically intense or not?? the two listed above are good the l. krauss book on dark matter is decent but for a pure mathematical/physics related TEXTbook i suggest "gods" gift to the subject Intro to astrophysics by Ostlie and Carroll its 150$ CDN but its worth it...easy to read with explicit comprehensible proofs and great figures though black and white. It describes about stellar formation, planetary formation, blackholes, wormholes, nebulae gas, acretion disks, binary star systems...cosmology... why the universe is almost planar. etc. |
