Blackpool is one of 50 Towns and Cities taking part in WORLD ZOMBIE DAY!!!

Blackpool’s first organized zombie walk will begin at 2pm on Sunday 26th October from Central Library on Queen St. and will be a fantastic opportunity for the living dead to walk the streets without fear of decapitation, incineration or any other gruesome end! This is due to the fact that the walk is part of a global World Record attempt that at time of press, 50 cities worldwide, are taking part in. The walk is open to all ages and the idea is for the horde to be as realistic as possible so feel free to look as horrible as you like! It will start from the library, head down the promenade and finish at the Odeon cinema where a zombie film will be shown at 5pm. Please note the film will be a 18 certificate and we also ask that participants under the age of 16 are accompanied by an adult for the walk.

Where did the idea come from? A zombie gathering which drew more than 1,000 people to the Monroeville Mall outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA on a Sunday morning last autumn has been certified as a Guinness World Record™ for the second consecutive year. The zombie walk, sponsored by The It’s Alive Show, a late night horror host television program originating from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, USA also raised more than 1,200 pounds of food donations for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

This year the zombie invasion is going global and World Zombie Day is not only a Guinness World Record™ attempt, but has a commitment to raising hunger awareness worldwide by incorporating food drives into the walk.

The walk is completely free of charge and food donations can be made at ‘Paranoia’ at 104 Topping Street or brought along on the day to the library. Suitable foods are: Dry Pasta, Dry Rice and Tinned fish, all with at least 6 months on the expiry date.

“Through World Zombie Day’s Food Drive the zombies taking part will be helping to meet needs across the planet. Global Hand is delighted to see WZD Blackpool invest into its social impact. Through using what we have in one part to assist those in another is the simple Global Hand goal. As ironic as it sounds the living dead will be feeding, as opposed to feeding off, the living! Thank you for your support.”

Ben Solanky, UK Director, GLOBAL HAND UK

“The Charity Real Aid is very pleased to receive support from The Food Drive that World Zombie Day in Blackpool.

Real Aid works in many countries including Sierra Leonne, Africa one of the poorest Countries in the world. The donations of non-perishable foods such as rice, pasta and tinned fish will make a huge difference to the children and families that we support.

We wish that thank everyone involved in this project including the organisers and donors and hope that in the future more partnerships of this kind will join together to help make the world a better place to live.

For further details on the work of the charity please visit www.realaid.org.uk.’

    Michelle Middleton, REAL AID

All zombie participants are required to sign in to be counted for the record attempt. This will be done at the library from 11am where there will also be a limited number of make up artists on hand to make sure the Blackpool zombies look great! Later in the evening there will be a ‘Misery of Sound’ night at the West Coast Rock Café to conclude the day’s events. It promises to be a fantastic day, full of fun and screams so we’ll see you all on the 26th October 2008 and let the invasion begin!
