Black circle around moon?

ln 2001, Fox News broadcasted the occurence of a big black circle around the moon, which happened twice, thusfar in Lou,Ky. Although camera's couldn't show it, nor pictures capture it, some people seen it. The news couldn't give much detail, unsure,understandable, however they say it happens every (X) amount of year's. As far as my input, it was awesome and scary, like the eye of the universe....paranormal in nature. If there is anyone out there who has any insight, scientific, but mainly spiritual, share your thoughts.

If it's what I think you mean it's more common than you realise. Basically it's an optical illusion when you get very clear skies and fine ice particle in the upper atmosphere. What you get is the moon, a dark circle round it then a sky lit up with diffracted moonlight. It looks pretty is all. Nothing mystical or paranormal at all.

***Have you ever looked at it through a telescope? Fine ice particles? Lets just pray that one never fall. Is the radius always gigantic? However it seem to be a Energy field... waves. It was like looking into another part of space,interdimesional, in nature, fascination. However I hope it does occure more. 26 yr's, only seen it twice. Do you know how often it occures?

In other words, you would rather not think for yourself but instead rely on God to think for you.

However concerning science there are infinite branches.

In other words, how are you to ever handle anything as hard as science if you can't already think for yourself.

 

Sun dogs, moon dogs, moon circles, moon rings and sun pillars while uncommon are not extremely rare. Lots of times they are there and folks just don't look up to see them.

 

Has anyone ever seen one of these?

Personally my comfort zone was in astronomy& mathmatics they go hand in hand. And as I pace the floor to understand some theory... there was nothing wrong with praying for help.

 

I think this is the point...she didn't really want a scientific answer, especially something as commonplace as ice crystals.

Sounds like we are confusing the reporters misunderstanding of what happens with an Astronomer. This is not like it's a rare planetary conjuction or any thing.

As for how often it happens, every time there's a full moon, clear skies and ice in the atmosphere. I see this effect quite often in deep winter.

Lady, the wonders of the natural world are far more beautiful and beguiling than the ramblings of New Age prophets espousing energy fields. Look up into the deep night sky more and gaze upon the marvellous pictures of the deep sky. Marvel at the beauty there is around us and the wondrous ways it all operates. The perfect symmetries of a quartz crystal created by the inter-atomic forces dictating it's shape are vastly more powerful and beguiling than any putative healing properties it has.

Ice crystals form in the troposphere causing halos which appear around the sun and moon. Therefore, halos are not astronomical phenomena, but are meteorological phenomena.

I have seen halos and I enjoy them, very much,however, this black hole was so huge in magnitude that it reminds me of a thread I was browsing, which spoke of a hole in the mid of the universe. This experiece made me a believer, however,despite my desire to capture it,futile,given the gigantic size, therfore, there I stood, 3am, with a few neighbors, frightened yet awed.
