Your taxes also rise in order to pay for government incompetence, pork-barrel projects which benefit primarily the elected official(s) responsible for creating them - since the purpose of them is after all to secure as long a tenure in office as possible, pandering to civil service unions in order to secure their support, and to finance programs - or the lack thereof - which benefit special interests which can afford to lobby (ie - bribe) elected officials to either enact, repeal, or alter legislation to fit their particular agendas.
