Greetings all,

I have a weird one here that's stumped me; hopefully someone here will have some suggestions.
I did a format and fresh install of WinXP Pro less than five days ago and since then I've noticed some odd behavior. I first noticed that every day when I first got to my computer, my desktop sortcuts have those annoying arrows back (after removing them via TweakUI). This was annoying enough but then this morning, after falling asleep on the couch, I distinctly heard my computer rebooting (that darn annoying Windows boot tune). I rushed to see what the hell was going on and lo and behold, destop shortcuts again have those arrows, otherwise, everything seems OK.
Nothing malicious seems to be going on and everything is otherwise alright. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

otherwise.. maybe try using a different software for tweaking...

TweakUI should work just fine.

First suggestion, go to windows update and get all your updates if you haven't already. Second, get AVG (grisoft.com), update and scan your system for viruses.
BTW, you should get a firewall if you don't have one.
If you don't have any viruses, then maybe you should try something else for tweaking. I'd suggest TuneUp Utilities (www.tune-up.com).

you should take a look at your start up may be an evil ahcker install a reboot app or just look at all teh setting you tweak you may have put one that reboot your computer every hour for exmaple (I dunno if it's possible I am not on win xp pro)

I'm all up to date via WU. Clean of virii (sp ?). Running a firewall, of course. I did some cleaning via Spybot S&D and RegClean, also disabled System Restore, killed Hibernation, got everything the way I like it and rebooted. Going on 48+ hours and all is good.
