No whisper of dissent is too small to escape the attention of John Ashcroft’s thought police.

Indeed, it is extremely hard to see why Mr. Thurmond has picked on Mr. Bursey out of all the people in the Secret Service zone. None of the other protesters with him was arrested. Neither were any of the several hundred supporters of the president who were holding equally dangerous (but pro-Bush) signs as they stood near the hangar where the president was to speak.

The prosecutors say that Mr. Bursey was not in a special ‘free-speech zone’ that was set up for protesters half a mile from the hangar. The pro-Bush people did not need to be there because they were not protesting. Mr. Bursey told the cops, defiantly, that he was under the impression that the whole of America was a free-speech zone. (Full text here (http://www.economist.com/world/na/displayStory.cfm?story_id=1863097)) I, too, am particularly struck by the concept of a “free-speech zone.” This zone is shrinking, and may soon fit neatly inside the cranial cavity of each American.

:m: Peace.

During the last Republican convention in Philadelphia ( the birth place of American government ) , "free speech zones " consisted of a parking lot with a 8ft fence around it .

You can't get more blatant than that.

Welcome to the age of thought crimes and Free speach where you are free to kiss the presidents arse but god help you of you don't give enough tounge.

Abdulla: You can't give enough credit to Ashcroft for being so damned consistent.

I mean, here is a Vietnam era draft dodger ( and Bush administration CHICKEN HAWK ) who obtained enough college deferments in the mid-1960's to choke a hippo; who now believes that dissent is un-American and the old East German way of keeping the natives in check--spying and reporting any suspicious activitiy by your neighbors to the FBI, is patriotism at its finest!

I just wonder what this chicken livered coward would do if he found himself in a dark alley with two Hamas CRUISE BOMBERS beaconing for him to follow.

He'd probably get on his knees and cry for mercy; then cut both wrists after taking a lb. of Ex-lax to relieve his anxieties and then pray to be put out of his misery with as little pain as possible. ( this type of coward could never commit Hari-Kari, it's against his religion, hahahaha! )

Abdulla....
