I know it's hard to measure the value of these (some abstract) things, but these would probably be my top five as well.

sargentlard, you're probably right in your view that these things are beneficial. The notion that 'suffering is beautiful' I suspect is a subtext of your post - maybe I'm wrong. It's a notion which I've contemplated before, and one which I certainly don't dismiss - at least the notion that it can be beautiful.

driving through the mountains in early summer, the sun's just coming up, car's top is down and listening to my favorite music (add a light mist hugging the mountains to that).

buffys, just curious, which mountains do you have in mind? The mist brings the Smokies to my mind but I live in the San Juans. Different pictures.

in my case it's the Rockies, but I doubt there is a mountain range on earth that isn't awe inspiring.

I know I'll get jumped on for this, but the mountains are nothing compared to the prairies. So, ditto to what Buffy said, but substitute "prairies".
