I'm interested in knowing what you guys think the best linux distro is for a desktop environment. I was originally trying to install SimplyMepis but it wouldn't work for some reason, I then had interest in Ubuntu or SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop by Novell. I would prefer a free linux distro but am willing to pay for one if it increases ease of use. I've heard about things like Xandros or Linspire and was interested in them for awhile. So what do you guys think, is there a great x64 linux distro that will run well (better than Vista) and allow me to surf the internet, play games like Half Life 2 & Oblivion, etc?

I did hear WINE allows you to play games using linux but exactly how hard it is to install I've no idea. So what about it fellas, cuz Vista is running alright but I mean damn it's still not very fast. Right now I have this:

    Athlon 3800+ x2
    1 GB DDR 533
    160 SATA2
    nVidia GeForce 7300

and honestly I'm unimpressed with Windows now. It should not be so terribly inefficent, soo what'cha think?
