Please, I've got this great idea that's going to make everyone hap hap happy. I'm going to give you a book that tells you exactly why you aren't... and how you CAN BE.. hap... HAP... HAPPY baby. You've just got to believe.

Oh, and don't forget to send me a check.

:D

The weak are their prey. Do you suppose everyone falls prey to them at some time or another.. at least a smidge? I think "memory power" or whatever seemed like a good idea to me at one time (though I never actually bothered, I did borrow the tapes from a friend when they offered). I think I was like close to thinking Tony Robbins might not be evil at one point (but that's as far as it got, slightly too creepy).

Any thoughts? Surely someone has a better point than I...

Wow, Wesmorris, that's a really negative view of self help books, and evangelists. Don't worry, though, I can teach you how to have a more positive outlook on these sorts of things, in just ten easy steps, and for only 5 monthly payments of $19.99 for my book, or audio cassettes.

Do you do C.O.D.? :p

Hehe.. the economic demand for all that type of self helpish salvation seems directly proportionate to the summation of man's self-loathing and insecurity if you know what I'm driving at.

Actually one of the cooler books I've read was one of those kind of books.

It was from the 60's and called Psychocybernetics, with all of that self-helpy jargon and bold letters on the front. On the back it said something about "do it yourself tranquilizers that bring piece of mind". I thought hell yeah, only 10 cents at a thrift shop. When I actually read it, I found it had some very good points and detailed a lot of research to support those points.

But yeah there's a lot of crap out there, people trying to sell you the instant enlightenment. America, as a society, is such an instant gratification society, we pump millions of dollars into such industries. Some hop around from one insta-cure to the next, each one holding them over to the next insta-hit. Whoa what am I suggesting???? ;)
