define smart, and define intelligent. I would say that being smart is having a lot of knowledge, while being intelligent is just one's natural thinking and problem solving ability. in that case, yes, they are different.

If you give 'smart' and 'intelligent' different definitions, then they're different. If you give them the same definition, they're synonyms. Their implicit definitions probably depend on context and who's using them - some people might use them interchangeably, some might not. Who cares, anyway?

I shall vote "No way", since being smart is different from being intelligent, not different than.

It's easier to think of both terms as interchangeable, though the same could be said of intelligent and knowledgeable... difference being that the latter is actually precise about its definition.

lets see 'smart' as oppose to casual attire

intelligence pertaining to problem solving ability

erm is there a difference indeed there is, one relates to looking good, the other relates to sounding good, meanwhile have you noticed that the more intelligent, the less smart? Cordoroy trousers spring to mind and elbow patches.

I have proof I have a high IQ, yet I still drink, smoke weed, have unprotected sex, pick fights with people who are 3 times my size and eat 7 hot dogs in a 2 and a half hour period. So I am a dumbass.

But it is your high IQ that allows you to recognise this. Without that intellect you would simply be an avante garde Republican.

What? An intelligent person having fun is a dumbass? In that case I aspire to be the greatest dumbass the world has ever known.

Intelligence: High IQ, Ability to think and solve problems.
Smartness: The ability to make wise choices.

Have vast amounts of knowlege is something completely different.

An IQ test measures your Intelligence Quotient, or how well you do on an IQ test: "a number derived from a set of standardized tests developed to measure a person's cognitive abilities." Whether or not this measures a person's "intelligence" is very controversial and debateable.

After taking an IQ test I was told that I had an IQ of 140 - higher than Einstein's! Whoever, or however, they graded this test, must've been pretty dumb. And so are you if you "drink, smoke weed, have unprotected sex, pick fights, etc." So welcome to the "dumbass club." Neither of us are "intelligent"!

In my opinion, being intelligent is being able to store relatively more amounts of information and to understand complex things fairly easily, and being smart is to apply that information and those complex things, thus making them different. Hence, if you have an IQ of 140, which you say is more than Einstein's, but still believe that Einstein was mentally superior to you, I would say that you are more intelligent that Einstein, even though he was much, much, smarter than you.

Einstein never took an IQ test. His IQ has been variously estimated at between 160 and 200.

intelligent to me is having a good memory, while being smart is a judgement of how a person deals with situations that they encounter in life.(this is just my opinion)
