View Full Version : Being bald
wanneszinnig 11-29-07, 11:58 AM Funny, today I had a meeting and the tutor there was almost completely bald. You could compare it a little with Britneys shave here:
http://www.pjlighthouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/britney_spears_shaving-hair-bald.jpg
Now my question is: how come most men start to get bald in the middle and keep hair on the sides?
Is there a scientific reason for this?
there is increased sensitivity to male sex androgen hormones in those parts of the scalp...the blood circulating in those areas does not supply enough hormones...as a result of less blood circulation
Why, wanneszinnig , are you going BALD?

Because they are only half wits, full wits lose it all! :D
shorty_37 11-29-07, 01:25 PM When men start going bald do you think they are more concerned about how they feel about it. Or are they more concerned how women will feel about ???
cosmictraveler 11-29-07, 01:27 PM Both ways affect men.
I've got all my hair. Indeed, too much of it.

Till Eulenspiegel 11-30-07, 02:16 PM Shorty,
I'm totally bald. I shave my head every morning and twice a day if I am going to a party or something. I started losing my hair when I was about fifty. At first I ignored it. Then one day I was golfing with a buddy and when the wind whipped up his comb over laid out flat like a flag flapping in the breeze. Right then and there I swore I would never have a comb over.
I still have hair but I shave it off. Some heads look good bald and some don't. I happen to have one of those that looks good. I actually look younger bald than I did when I had hair.
if your bald in the front- you think a lot.
if your bald in the back- your smart.
if your bald in the fron and the back- you thinkk your smart.

Pure supposition, but think about the parts of the body that everyone has hair on. The crotch, the pits, the side of the head for males and females. For men add the neck and face. What do these all have in common? They're all vital areas, areas likely to suffer damage in a fight. The top of the head, on the other hand, is rarely a point of attack.
The benefit baldness might have offered is it differentiates the mature males from the kids. Among a group of dirty, hairy savages; a bald head might have been a mark of distinction. Evidence that you were a survivor, likely a tribal leader.
Why do some women go bald?
Why do some women go bald?
High testosterone I think.
I thought it had something to do with a recessive gene.
I thought it had something to do with a recessive gene.
I just what I thought was the cause, I think I heard it somewhere so I don't know if it's true..
I started out with hair all over but all are gone due to DHT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldness). There is really no cure. But at this age, who cares!
Some reason baldness is associated with social maturity and smartness. I have not seen a dumb bald person among my co-workers. May be there is something to it.:D
Orleander 11-30-07, 08:30 PM DHT - a powerful sex hormone
LMAO!!
DHT - a powerful sex hormone
And it created a lot of trouble in my younger days. I think the body also produces high level pheromones proportional to the DHT during that time.
shorty_37 11-30-07, 10:52 PM Shorty,
I started losing my hair when I was about fifty.
Some heads look good bald and some don't. I happen to have one of those that looks good.
Well you are pretty lucky then. It sounds like it doesn't really bother you.
But you also starting losing it around 50 (which is pretty good).
How do you think you would have felt if you were only in your late 20's 30's though?
Till Eulenspiegel 12-01-07, 09:28 AM Probably about the same. I am fairly inner directed so it wouldn't bother me to be bald any more than it would bother me to have brown eyes rather than hazel.
Orleander 12-01-07, 09:41 AM My husband started losing his hair in high school, poor guy. He was smart enough to at least never do a comb over. He was VERY self conscious of it, until me. I convinced him to cut it short like Bruce Willis. He looked so much better. I don't think it will be too long until he does what you do Till.
I have a girlfriend who's hair started thinning when she went through puberty. Its really noticeable, but we pretend its not. She has gotten a fairly large weave.
I got Alopecia areata with my first pregnancy. The 2 spots are about the size of a quarter.

I am both bald, and shaved.
Orleander 12-01-07, 10:06 AM shaved??? umm, we aren't gonna see a lower picture are we.
;)
tablariddim 12-01-07, 10:07 AM Show me yours first.
madanthonywayne 12-01-07, 11:32 AM My husband started losing his hair in high school, poor guy. He was smart enough to at least never do a comb over. He was VERY self conscious of it, until me. I convinced him to cut it short like Bruce Willis. He looked so much better. I don't think it will be too long until he does what you do Till. I remember seeing Patrick Stewart (Star Trek, TNG) on the Tonight Show once advising that if you're losing your hair, just keep it short. So when my hair started thinning, I followed his advise. You've really got to watch the sides or you end up looking like bozo!
wanneszinnig 12-01-07, 12:15 PM I also think it is a good idea for men loosing their hair to shave it.
Still not everybody starts looking like Bruce Willis.. :-)
Orleander 12-01-07, 03:16 PM ...You've really got to watch the sides or you end up looking like bozo!
EXACTLY!!! Its why I asked hubby to cut it. I don't know who he thought he was kidding. But it was hard for him. He wanted to hang on to what he had left.
And he does look like Bruce. Patrick S looks like he has a ridge on his head (to me at least)
Till Eulenspiegel 12-02-07, 05:05 AM My cousin was visiting from Germany and I took her into NYC to see the sights. We were outside the Hard Rock Cafe where different celebreties have their hand prints imbedded into the wall. I placed my hands into Bruce Willis' prints to see how they fit. My cousin turned to me and said, "You look just like Bruce Willis." Then, before my head had a chance to swell she added, "From the eyebrows up."
Ladies, are the baldmen better lovers? Just asking...

lucifers angel 12-02-07, 01:59 PM oh for all the men here complianing about being bald, just deal with it, at least you lost your hair due to age or accident, but try loosing it to cancer not a nice thing, your all well

 You go girl!!
Spud Emperor 12-02-07, 03:50 PM I'm bald as an egg but no-one knows.
I do a fairly unique comb-over. I start with the long grey hair from my neck which is coarse and wiry and sweep it up to the middle of my crown ( that's the crown of my head, I'm only an Emperor, not a fucking King). this forms a solid base, then I spend a few minutes straightening my eyebrows ( again, stiff and wiry but jet black). Carefully now I push them back till they just reach the neck hair and do an intricate and tricky weave. The fact that it's a tight fit means that my brow is somewhat lifted and can give me the appearance of having just seen a ghost or being transfixed in a beam of light.
The grey and black delineation makes a striking statement and the added combination of my straggly red beard matting with my grey chest hair always seems to excite the ladies.
p.s If I strike the right pose, I can look disconcertingly like a tartan rug...very scary for the kiddies at a picnic when the rug suddenly transforms into a pissed, semi-comatose jolly old uncle Spud!

I know how devestating cancer can be. I am a cancer survivor, twenty four years and counting. I lost both vocal cords and half my larynx to cancer My mother-in-law and my daughter-in-law both survived breast cancer.
My heart go out to anyone who hears those dreaded words, "You have cancer."

how do you talk?
Spud, you just made me choke on my coffee.:(
I think the issue with baldness probably arose from the age of the comb over.*Shudder*
Spray on hair (a la Chuck Norris beard) is not socially acceptable. Nor are comb overs, or toupes.:p
I agree with lucifer. If you are otherwise healthy and are going bald, deal with it. Some end up losing their hair due to cancer or other illnesses and I think it would be a safe bet to say that they probably find the whining about baldness to be pointless. If you have your health, but are losing your hair... deal with it and be thankful you are healthy.
Going bald naturally is a part of life. Most men and some women end up losing their hair as they get older. For some, it happens earlier and for others, later. Deal with it.
